He’s not being entirely factual there. In the 1960’s LBJ said enough and blew off the dixicrats and those that held their sentiments. He moved the Democratic party to one that would be a monolith against racism( the GOP was only partly pro civil rights ) and that caused a sea change. Dixiecrats like Thurmond saw a need to go and went GOP. Remember Reagan: “I didn’t leave the Democratic party…it left me”… Yup that’s what we’re talking about. Racism, evicted from the Democratic party, moved to new diggs. The GOP.

I know a frighteningly large number of Republicans and right-libertarians who are absolutely convinced the Southern Strategy never happened, that party realignment on race issues never happened, and that both ideas are historical revisionism being pushed into the public schools by liberals. Asking them to read a book, or an essay, or to google it is fruitless, because they are a priori convinced it’s all lies being pushed by the dirty libs.
