A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
The challenge this morning is how to alert you to a big dump of new misinformation without amplifying and validating it. The good news: This is an easier task when Kevin McCarthy and Tucker Carlson are involved because it is so transparent.
I’ve been wondering: How much Bullshit Mountain Theatre do I have to pay attention to? How much medication should I plan on? (So as to get through this in one piece.)
Re the administration’s considering detaining immigrant families:
This impasse on reforming policy is infuriating. Republicans get to sit back and complain about “open borders” AND refuse to do anything on policy AND force the administration more toward what they want to see happen on border policy anyway.
I think we need to give tucker a break. We all know he gets paid a lot of money to say and do stupid crap. If he doesn’t tow the line on the bullshit express he would have to get a real job.
As the fallout from the Dominion defamation suits continues, Fox Corp. is losing its top lobbyist. Danny O’Brien, who hails from Democratic circles and used to work for Joe Biden, is stepping down as EVP and head of government relations.
Platformer: How a single engineer brought down Twitter on Monday
No, it wasn’t a “single engineer” that brought down Twitter, it was the hollowing out of their tech staff. Whether it’s the one guy (or gal) left, or the two or five where there used to be dozens, bad shit’s gonna happen, and it’s not the fault of the token ones who didn’t get fired. It’s the fault of the hollowing out, and the one who chose to do that.
ETA: a “single engineer” can make a catastrophic mistake and there are some great stories about such events; and much time and money is spent on review and test systems to try to drive down the chances of that happening by several standard deviations. But twitter since acquisition has been moving in the opposite direction.
Same. My mouth dropped as I listened to the NPR story on this.
I don’t know what kind of mechanism exists for getting GOPers to participate in serious immigration reform to bring an end to this see-sawing of executive orders, short of 2 X 4s between the eyes, but I wish that someone would find it and use it.
In fact - “no reasonable person would believe that he states facts.”
