After initially declining to do so, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s (D) office on Tuesday released two emails from the White House confirming President Joe Biden’s plan to nominate Chad Meredith, an anti-abortion Federalist Society member, to a federal judgeship.
Hopefully this will scuttle the appointment. It’s a deal with the Devil*, literally, who has already done enough damage to the courts that will last at least a generation.

Dobbs, the case that overturned Roe v. Wade, says that no right to privacy is found in the Constitution. Seems like there isn’t really any reason to keep appeasing Mitch McConnell at this point.
Biden’s tendency to want to get along with the other side rather than to confront it–even when the other side’s position is abhorrent–is what got us Clarence Thomas. You would think he had learned his lesson…a lesson we have paid for dearly.
If this deal were indeed about getting to add many more judges by letting this one through then as much as I hate it, I can’t argue with the utility of going through with it. I don’t like it at all though. I would also like to know what kind of assurances he got from McConnell and why he’s trusting them.
Maybe Biden is an 11th dimensional chess wizard and he had a cunning plan in mind. Because I have no idea how this in any way helps the Democrats.
Maybe he had an idea of what was coming and wanted to appear bipartisan knowing he was going to scuttle the nomination.
Or maybe he’s just not up to the task of running the government. This was a rookie mistake and he ain’t no rookie.
Well I think he has lost some more votes. Doesn’t look good for him.

I like Joe Biden. He seems like a nice guy. That said, I’m getting ready to dump him. He’s a lightweight and too prone to compromise. He doesn’t seem to recognize the existential threats we face. He doesn’t understand the change in his opponents’ character. He is past his prime and cannot think on his feet. This stab in the back to the pro-choice community after the leaked Roe opinion is his second inexcusable action selling out his base, the first one being his lies to the Democratic caucus about having Manchin and Sinema in the bag in order to get votes for BIF.
The reason to reelect Biden was the incumbency advantage, but he is currently polling worse than the generic congressional ballot. If I think another candidate emerges with good electability, I will dump Biden in a heartbeat.
Let’s face it, electability was the one and only reason to support Biden,. It might have been the right call – he did win. But he’s losing that advantage, and without it he has nothing.
One more anti-abortion trial court judge in eastern Kentucky replacing another anti-abortion trial court judge in eastern Kentucky isn’t going to make a lick of difference to anything. If – and only if – Joe got a reasonable return, it may have been worth it.
Also, when I have to send a written follow-up message 6 days later clarifying that the previous written message was privileged and confidential and totally not something that should be disclosed, it means I have previously fucked up by putting something stupid in writing and sent it to someone with no obligation or incentive to keep it on the down-low.
So it’s Jill Stein 2024 for you then? Bernie of bust? Libertarian? Or are you just going to get right to the point and go full-on Greenwaldian MAGA?
It’s a binary choice. Make yours wisely.
Absolutely not, I’m talking primaries. If Biden wins the primary he has my vote.

There’s not going to be a remotely viable primary challenge.
It’s time we achieved moral clarity, and called anyone who would enslave women for bearing infants as the evil that they are. The least person anyone of conscience should do is appoint someone evil to federal office. This is not a mater for compromise. They are no more “just a little bit evil” than a woman can be “just a little bit pregnant.”
This looks to me like a staff level fuck-up. Which is not a good thing either. But if Biden really made a handshake deal with Mitch, it is an even worse sign because it’s dumb to think that McConnell will honor it, especially if the mid-terms are bad for Dems.
Seems to me that fatigue is setting in in the White House. Too many fires to put out and not enough vocal and consistent support from Congress. It is imperative to overcome the stalemate in the Senate.
Now that we have some evidence to go on, I’m bound to say that I think there have been better ideas.
