Witchcraft, wicked witchcraft! Suffice to say the Sunday show powers that be were not happy to be left hanging by Christine O’Donnell. Subsequently, instead of talking to O’Donnell, they talked about O’Donnell. Namely, that O’Donnell had “dabbled in witchcraft.” Said Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation: “What we did not know at the time [O’Donnell canceled] was that Friday night Bill Maher the comedian had circulated a video interview she had done for his program back in 1999…in which she said of all things [laughing] that she had ‘dabbled in witchcraft.’ Here it is.” A fascinated Schieffer then spent an entire segment talking about the “witchcraft” phenom. Meanwhile, over at Fox News Sunday Karl Rove subbed in for the missing O’Donnell. Rove defended his much-criticized criticism of O’Donnell by essentially saying voters won’t ignore the crazy factor just because they are angry with Obama and that actually she made a “smart decision” by canceling on the Sunday shows. That being said, Rove thinks O’Donnell can’t “simply ignore” the witchcraft remark, “she’s got to deal with it, and explain it, and put it in it’s most sympathetic light and move on.” You know what they say: witchcraft, it’s strictly taboo…especially when you cancel on the Sunday powers that be.
