Government officials like to have things down on paper, for CYA purposes if nothing else. And there probably is something somewhere saying something. But if it will actually answer any questions as opposed to posing more seems to be the real issue.

Tons of gay men have beards. My closet friend had one and he was, well, pretty gay. It’s got nothing to do with masculinity. I don’t find that a beard makes someone masculine regardless of orientation.

Well, it’s all a matter of personal perceptions I suppose. There is the idea that it adds informality to a look but there is also the idea that a clean shaven Boy Scout type of image is more reassuring and open. So kinda hit or miss depending on audience. If facial hair is considered more informal then we already know the perfect candidate…

Not sure how the optics are being misinterpreted here. The far right acts against the fatuous bill making it seem to people like there is any conversation about it at all. There isn’t. Trump gets what he wants.
The far right get to keep the window open for further and deeper malevolent shit, make it seem like there is a conversation, up the drama, then fold as they always do.
