A grand jury Tuesday night declined to indict two protesters in the Chicago area accused of assaulting law enforcement, the latest in a shocking string of failures by the Trump Department of Justice.
American juries be they grand or petit, have a long history of protecting peaceful protesters.
I’ve only been seeing excerpts but apparently tRump has been saying during his " antifa " presser this afternoon that protests such as burning a flag are " treason " and he’s wanting it referred to Pam Bondi at DOJ. He is truly insane and it’s on full display right there in the Oval Office. We are an international disgrace…
Since it is famously possible to indict a ham sandwich, is it possible the lawyers seeking indictments are tipping their hand so as to follow their boss’s orders, but remaining ethical by disclosing the weakness in their own cases as a handoff to the judge to instruct away possibility of returning an indictment?
Basically both trying to keep their job now, and also not be disbarred on the future…
I assume ‘grand jury nullification’ is a thing, so it could be that as well.
Comey “stood to his full 6-foot-8 height to offer his plea” — to what other height he could stand remains unclear).
Expect a full CAP “truth” this evening claiming CF-DJT is taller and healthier and sexier than Comey
And the DOJ dropped all charges on the two. That must have been some serious assault.
If we lived in Tudor times, the grand jury that refused to hand up an indictment would be haled before the Star Chamber Court and be in danger of treason charges.
How long before Trump puts on his Henry VIII costume (and falseface) and tries this, too? (He’s working on the Henry VIII act. Henry’s girth was 58 inches, as measured by his last-made suit of armor, and he died at 55 after a lifetime of horrible overeating.)
What is this?
The 1960’s?
Power to the people!
Jeannine Pirro is now going to indict Dunn’s hoagie, and drop the indictment against Dunn himself. ICE says the hoagie had ham in it, so a true bill is expected to be returned.
Next up will be Portland with Noem and Trump whining about protesters dressing up like ‘animals’ and defying ICE. Kiss off Cult. You are way over your skiis.
Thanks for this “Where Things Stand”! We are definitely seeing signs of not only resistance, but successful resistance to the regime. We need this good news, along with the usual seemingly endless beat of trumpian atrocities.
What would put the icing on the cake would be the judge dismissing the (literally) Trumped-up Comey case. Yeah, I’m sure another reason the First Felon hates Comey so much is that Comey is a full 6 feet 8 inches, while the FF seems to have shrunk to barely over 6 feet. (Tall. Maybe also wide.) And his apparent height is approaching the 4 foot 10 of his chief of staff, Stephen Miller.
Has there been any official Xits out of the White House bog about the naked bike riders? I want to hear what the Please Gawd Keep His Clothes On potus has to say about the naked people on bikes.
(and wouldn’t you want some kind of cover on your saddle to protect it? just sayin’ …)
Glad to see my Senators confronting Johnson about searing in our elected Representative.
That would be swearing in (not searing, definitely)!
its eagerness to crack down on protesters resistant to its brutality
Just think. Last year at this time, both sides of the aisle could bitch openly and freely. Yet things used to be so quiet and easy in their way. Business as usual. Everyone busy working.
I’m really not liking Republican government or Republican political ideology, and their solutions create more problems than they solve.
Here are the protestors in Portland “dressing up like animals” and “defying ICE” — oh, the horror . . . the horror . . .
It’s truly an outrage — everyone knows that a unicorn would never dance with a raccoon! It’s an affront to all we hold sacred!
There is nothing about which the Trumpers won’t lie.
The story of the Resistance to this two-bit tyrant “fucking moron” from Queens will be from We The People in the streets and serving on juries, District Judges who followed the facts and the law, and peaceful protestors in the streets claiming their God-given rights as the true and only sovereigns of the United States. The “elites” in Congress, in business and in the Judiciary (Appellate and SCOTUS) have ALL failed us and will not be remembered as hero’s but as complicit accomplices after the fact. They ALL need to held accountable when WE THE PEOPLE regain our rightful power over events. I can’t wait.
You realize there are several Supreme Court cases on flag burning. It isn’t illegal. It is simply free speech.
Trump is taking the tact that flag burning is inciting to riot which might be illegal but not treason. My guess is there is going to have to be a lot more than burning a flag to get to inciting a riot.
