2020 Democratic candidate Julián Castro said on Sunday that President Donald Trump likes to “terrorize” migrant families with his severe anti-immigration policies.
Candidates should perform a service to the broader campaign and coordinate their messages on topics like this to include an attack on Mitch. Something like:
“Trump likes to terrorize migrant families. And by the way, leader McConnell is ok with that and that’s why the terror continues. Vote in 2020!”
If Castro is suggesting Trump takes glee in tormenting brown kids and their parents, that honor would better be placed on Trump’s father, Fred. Woodie Guthrie wrote:
I suppose
Old Man Trump knows
Just how much
Racial Hate
he stirred up
In the bloodpot of human hearts
When he drawed
That color line
Here at his
Eighteen hundred family project
We should remember that the Trump perspective is quite foreign to most of us, but those who get it love the cover it provides for what they believe to be innocent covert racism. As we’ve seen with Orban, Putin, Assad, and many others, the key to dismantling the rule of law is to get groups in society squabbling with each other.
That may be also true but it is Trump himself who delivers this message. And if I’m not mistaken the day Trump came down the escalator to announce Mexicans were rapists and criminals Stephen Miller was not yet part of the campaign.
And giving Miller credit for this excuses Trump and he should not be so excused.
Migrants are poor people of color with no connections to prominent people or political power, therefore, are the ideal people for a weak, racist, cowardly President to bully and demagogue.
I don’t feel that way about it. Trump’s viscerally a racist and gets how it weirds racist or just fearful people out to hear Spanish spoken in the aisles of the supermarket in their white-bread town. Miller understands that demographic trends favor the liberals he so loathes. So they’re both driving this in their own ways and I don’t think recognizing them both as drivers excuses anyone for it.
I’m not conviced Trump hates migrants (he employs a lot of them), he’s just cynically using them for political gain. Miller is a different, sick, thing.
But that means that Trump can think for himself and had an early strategy. IMO, he ran on Immigration, and he won on immigration
Everyone wants to think he’s a genuine moron. He isn’t. He does and says stupid shit to get headlines.
Like Jim Acosta said, “he’s crazy like a fox”.
He has talked with and been around Trump for a few years. I trust his judgement.
Using people isn’t in any way not hating them. He employs them because he can take advantage of their status to not treat them well or pay them what they are worth. He doesn’t allow them to have any of the “front of the house” jobs in his businesses because he finds it offensive to see them and assumes (perhaps he’s correct, I don’t know) that others who frequent his establishments don’t want to see them, either. But they’re fine for working cheap to clean up after him and his ilk.
