GOP operative Roger Stone can no longer post on social media, after a federal judge banned him from doing so at a Tuesday court hearing.

(I am very leery of broad gag orders as a general matter, but Stone is the ne plus ultra “no, I cannot be trusted not to comment on this narrowly-defined topic”)

Why is Stone not in jail? He has repeatedly violated the court-ordered terms of his release. Lock the SOB up for the duration.

As a sign of hope, a judge making Roger Stone shut the hell up for once in his life isn’t quite as poetic. But it’s pretty sweet.

For what it’s worth, this will mean that Stone puts his own ass in jail simply and directly because he wanted the attention. I can find some universal meaning in that.

Assistant US Attorney Jonathan Kravis argued there was nothing “ambiguous or unclear” about the judge’s order, and that Stone had “clearly” violated it. Jackson asked what he thought she should do. Kravis said the government was not asking her to hold Stone in contempt, but said at a minimum she should clarify her order to be more specific — that it applied to posts about public filings and comments phrased as questions, for instance — and consider blocking him from using social media altogether.
