Judge Slaps Proud Boys Leader With Tougher Sentence Than Gov’t Wanted | Talking Points Memo

Yes and probably why the government was looking fir a light sentence. The one he got may be more than expected but it’s still light.

What appeal? He pleaded guilty.

The total sentence was 395 days, with 240 days of it suspended. I imagine there will be a couple years’ supervised release after that. He’ll be “in the system” for about three years, if he keeps his nose squeaky clean.

Reagan-appointed judge, on senior status.

A Mr. Michael Flynn would like to discuss this “plead guilty, then appeal” process with you…

Well, he’s got another 3 months of suspended, for what it’s worth.

Am I mistaken in remembering that the church was going to sue him for civil rights violations?

He’s lucky he didn’t have a half-smoked joint. Might have been 10 years in jail for that.

These “boys” need a hell of a lot more punishment than they’re getting. I assume quite a few of them are in with the cops, or are cops. This is bullshit, what they’re getting away with. They need to burn

I only know what I just read here, but yeah, even that “tougher” sentence isn’t much. There’s something missing in the appreciation of what went on. Apart from the legal violations - burning that banner and carrying that ammo - there is the simple fact that he engaged in thuggish KKK-like behaviour. Now understood universally as terrorist behaviour. Racist terrorist behaviour.

But, it was his personal self-aggrandizement and “lack of remorse” that got him slapped instead of slammed. And I’m being kind when I say slapped.

Flynn got attorney Powell to pull a bunch of crazy-pants stunts out of a south park episode, sufficient to delay his sentencing until pardon season opened. Tarrio is already past the sentencing step (as of today), so even if he got a lawyer to pull a Powell-style backsies on the guilty plea, the window for a delay-by-appeal is closed.

Besides, even if TFG were still in office, he doesn’t pardon little shits who don’t have dirt on him.

Well, I take solace, at least, in knowing that he will be eating a lot of mystery substance for 155 days in lockup.

“That group happens upon Asbury, a black church. They proceed to rip down and burn the church’s BLM banner on the street directly in front of Asbury.”

Enrique Tarrio: “That’s because we hate Asbury.”

Was he the one who was recently selling BLM t-shirts?

OT

Because they have nothing and are terrified to admit it.

Spot on. The overriding response here is that despite the judge increasing the sentence, it is far from enough punishment for the severity of the crimes.
Brings us to a core problem- just system needs reforming with drug offenses treated as addiction, and crimes endangering people and property as serious crimes commanding longer incarceration.

Merrick Garland gotta Merrick Garland. Even a Reagan appointed judge was dissatisfied by the punishment demanded by his prosecutors.

He’s in close competition with Mayorkas, whose inability (or lack of desire?) to make USCIS a functional immigration organization is a very large reason behind the issues in helping Afghan allies and refugees, as the worst Biden appointment.

Wait, who am I kidding. He is easily the worst appointment so far.
