Judge Shoots Down Trump Attempt To Block Jan. 6 Probe | Talking Points Memo

May this be so :pray:t3:

Lawrence Tribe, speaking on Lawrence Oā€™Donnellā€™s show tonight, took Garland to school tonight. Actually, Tribe was Garlandā€™s teacher a long time ago. He did not mince any words. It was great. No namby-pamby. Direct to Garland. Do it! I :crossed_fingers:t3: too!

ā€œPresidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President,ā€

amen

The changing of the POTUS should be no less sacred, uninterruptable nor clockwork than the changing of the guard.

The Judge noted that TFG and the gang "filed a plethora of unsuccessful lawsuitsā€¦ā€ which aim was to overturn the election.

My hope for the preservation of our Democracy is that as these things wind their way through the courts, enough judges will take the wider view of what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot, and a Republican Congress wanted to investigate a Democratic administration.

In theory that should go double for the SCOTUS judges with lifetime appointments, but power corrupts and thatā€™s pretty close to absolute power. Still, I have my hopes that the current SCOTUS knows the situation could be reversed some day, with some of these decisions.

Peristalsis, though inexorable and unstoppable, is not easily rushed.

All theoretically true and Iā€™ve suggested him invoking national security to do it, but for reasons i would hope are somewhat obvious, itā€™s far from the best first choice. We might be headed toward inevitable violence from these people, but that doesnā€™t mean we should invite it.

Reverse peristalsis on the other handā€¦

Methinks they need something shoved down their throat.

We shouldnā€™t have to settle for ā€˜it could have been worseā€™.

It would be a lot more fun if it was like this, the ritualistic closing of a border between rivals India and Pakistan each day. Weā€™re probably headed in this direction for change of parties taking the Presidency before longā€¦

Iā€™d like to optimistic about this, but I canā€™t help feeling deep in my bones, that these FedSoc Falangists believe at heart that the constitution is a user guide for a ā€œmanaged democracyā€, based on wealth and property holdings, and ownership as well as a ā€œstate churchā€ in spirit if not in fact. The rubes and Trumpers are convenient tools for the present, but on a societal level, there is about as much in common between the SCOTUS Con 6 and your average red neck Okie as there is between a lobster and a Jones-Day lawyer. The rednecks, like the rest of us, are there to be used up by the rentier class. Yes, thatā€™s a dark opinion on my part. Time will tell.

If the supreme court had to highstep like that weā€™d be rid of quite a few of them on a more timely basis.

Arenā€™t they all?

Iā€™m mildly exasperated at the breathless reporting over this. So what? The Criminal Scumbag merely got a two-week delay before this ruling: wasnā€™t that the point?

Let me guess: ā€œthe floodgates are openingā€ and ā€œthe walls are closing in, this time, for reals!ā€ Right?

What farce.

Trump, who is no longer president, cannot state a harm he would suffer from the subpoena going forward

I think Twice Impeached can state a lot of harm he will suffer if the full truth comes out through the subpoenaed documents. But then, stating the imminent harm in court would probably render the subpoenas pointless.

Fuck me in the goat ass!

Sighā€¦

Worst case now is they rule for him with completely batshit nonsense, and then his 6 on the SCOTUS decide thatā€™s their cover to just refuse to take up the issue.

She seems to be on all of these high profile cases. Can she request to be assigned to a specific case, or are names drawn out of a hat?

I dunno this seems pretty compelling to me.

She added that there was no discernible separation of powers conflict ā€“ both Congress and the White House are in agreement on handing over the records.
