Judge Schedules Trump To Be Sentenced In Hush Money Case Before Inauguration

Just because you were elected to office does not mean you are a Saint or that you deserved ANY righteous adulation. Mussolini was elected as was Hitler. Trump has more resemblance to Mussolini and Hitler than to Lincoln or Roosevelt or any of his predecessors.

In the end, both Mussolini and Hitler we’re reviled by their surviving “subjects”.

Here is to hoping the same thing happens to Trump.

God helps us until then.

I respectfully disagree. The Rule of Law is more important than the faulty selection of the Electorate.

The Office of the Presidency is much more important than any particular office-holder. We demean the Office by allowing criminals to occupy it.

Case in point - we elected both a President and a Vice-President. In the event the President can’t serve there is a back-up plan. IMHO, “can’t serve” should be one of the most important consequence of being a convicted felon.

Only in an America can you get a “mulligan” from being a criminal by being elected President. It’s an asinine law and a huge defect in our Constitution and it will cost us our democracy unless we are very lucky.:four_leaf_clover:

That’s just dumb. Put the fat asshole in protective custody to prove that he’s not a king, no better than the rest of us. Otherwise our entire country is built on bullshit and the damage is far worse than even this stupid pig could wreak.

Our world has been taken over by geeks who think that we never have to think again…machines can do it better for us…I am tired of spending hours trying to reach a human being in order to resolve a problem, when hours are spent online trying to find any screen that has an option that just MIGHT lead to a human who can actually assess and perhaps solve the problem. I am glad I am old. I am actually looking forward to being out of here.

And yet, there seem to be plenty of humans who call us to try to sell us something or scam us in some way.

We may as well face it. This crook is never going to be held accountable for any of his crimes. Thanks to a bunch of semi-hysterical idiots who are not bright enough to merit the right to vote, we are lumbered once again with a TV fictional character and all around buffoon who is not smart enough, honest enough, or decent enough to hold the office he has been “elected” to. Jimmy Carter’s recent death and the reviews of his life just serve to remind us what it was once like to have a truly decent man at the helm of our government.

I expect the calculation was that there are so many other cases against him that will outlast these 4 years that eventually someone somewhere will get this creep in an orange jump suit where he belongs.

Most of his previous trials were civil cases, were they not? All aimed at getting out of abiding by contracts he had agreed to with sub-contractors, thus bankrupting many small businesses. He is an unethical sleaze for sure, but he does know how to use the “law” for his own benefit.

And the Fulton County Case is the one I have pinned my hopes on. Nothing would be more fitting than that he serve time in a Georgia State Prison. It is the only reason I hope the Fat Felon lives beyond this term.

IIRC, @txlawyer has explained why Merchan did not have that option.

In the mid 1950’ president Eisenhower came to Los Angeles and motored slowly down Sunset blvd. My famiy and I waited on a corner by our selves. My dad rose to attention and saluted. The car pulled over and Ike shook my mom’s and dad’s hand the my older sister and then mine. He looked me in the eye and said “anyone can grow to be president”. We got trump.

So he wasn’t wrong…

My folks were centrist , not MAGA type republicans. I thought Ike pretty cool but hated his veep even then. Nixon felt to me as a kid like a thief and full of dishonesty. My feeling proved correct.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news…

Nothing in the Constitution says a sitting president cannot be confined to jail. We have the example in the 1920 election of Eugene Debs, a socialist, running for president while in prison. He got nearly a million votes and in 1920 that amount was significant but not a winner.

4 criminal indictments, 4 arrests, 78 total charges and at least 34 lower case convicted felonies for fraud at state criminal level should count for something. And convicted of civil sexual assault. This is more than some few fuck ups

I’m looking for a historical judgment from Merchan, anything less would be criminal.

Seems I have a shred of hope in our judicial system regardless of how torn it appears.

If this case goes down like all the others, waved away like smoke, I’m afraid of the fires the destruction of justice may stoke.

I don’t believe I have explained why Judge Merchan couldn’t have sentenced trump before the election, but the short answer is that the SCOTUS immunity decision coming down on July 1 required new rounds of immunity briefing to be disposed of as thoroughly as possible to help make the ruling against Trump stand up on appeal.

That’'s the gist of what I remember you saying, though perhaps it was in a different context in which you were making a different point. Thanks for replying.

Yeah, I’m way ahead of you.
