A federal judge shot down former President Trump’s claim of “absolute immunity” from multiple lawsuits accusing him of inciting the deadly Capitol insurrection last year.
It seems to me the precedent was established when Clinton was sued. I don’t understand why it has to be relitigated other than judges are protective of their fiefdoms.
This is why Donald was on-board with Mitch’s desire to bogart 3 or more SCOTUS seats: Mitch doesn’t give a shit about SCOTUS protecting Donald–just about SCOTUS protecting the rapacious-corporate-fucks GOP Caucus–while Donald only cared about SCOTUS protecting his wide ass. Marriage made in hell, of convenience.
At some point, some one of those 5 #FederalistSCOTUS scumbags are going to realize that jettisoning Donald–refusing to hear upwards appeals about things like Mehta’s decision–is going to help the rapacious-corporate-fucks’ goals. Alito and Thomas are lost-cause fanatics, Roberts & Gorsuch are R-C-P posterboys, but even Blackmailed Beer Kavanaugh and Amy Handmaid Barrett are going to realize that.
Mehta wrote that evidence suggests Trump’s election fraud falsehoods incited the mob of his supporters who stormed the Capitol. Mehta said that the former president’s conduct was not immune on separation-of-powers grounds because it fell beyond the “outer perimeter” of a president’s official duties.
Interesting essay at Hullabaloo this morning about the consequences of letting the rich and powerful escape justice for their crimes.
I sure hope this stands and appeals are handled very quickly. This activity sure “fell beyond the “outer perimeter” of a President’s official duties”. Discovery will sure be fun!
Good morning and welcome to the hellscape TFG is now living in. Everything he touches turns to a lawsuit, every plan blows up in his face, his mistreated employees turn him in, his only support comes from ignorant shysters hoping to make a buck off his bloated carcass. Good times.
Ottawa Police: "If you are involved in this protest, we will actively look to identify you and follow up with financial sections and criminal charges. Absolutely. This investigation will go on for months to come." pic.twitter.com/iLbWpA32Z6
The smart move would have been to promise immunity to anyone who heads home by the end of the weekend, giving things a chance to settle down. But petty tyrants rarely make the smart move, and Bell hasn’t shown the mental capacity to do that anyway. By pledging to pursue financial and legal retribution against those who dared to have the wrong political beliefs, he has now backed the protesters into a corner. If there was any thought of going home before among some protesters, that’s likely gone now because the punishment for speaking out is now a sunk cost.
And so ends what is perhaps the 8th or 9th “worst week for Donald Trump so far” in a row. We’re still in the early rounds, things are going to pick up and get serious.
It will make this last “worst week” seem mild by comparison.
So much winning, I’m not used to this, it will be long, long time before I’ll grow tired of it.
Appears that there is still a strong faction that thinks that if (a GOP) President does it … it is automatically entirely legal … and to verbalize thoughts contrary to that … well they lose their minds and think contrary thoughts are treason.
That would send even me through the roof. I know you are being sarcastic but there are liberals on our comment boards suggesting the same. I find that rather odd and not very liberal at all.
