Judge Questions Why Prosecutors Aren’t More Aggressive With Jan. 6 Insurrectionists

Federal Judge Beryl Howell on Monday challenged the feds on what she suggested to be their too-soft handling of some Jan. 6 insurrectionist cases.

Hear, hear, Judge Howell!! Don’t judges usually rein in prosecutors for their excesses rather than the other way around?

If you RTFA, she’s mostly just asking why the invaders are being fined only $500 (misdemeanor) or $2000 (felony) for a net $1.5 million in restitution, when congress has appropriated $500 million to cover costs of the invasion.

One wishes she would go Judge Sullivan on their asses and ask why they’re not being charged with sedition.

A question which will resonate.

“…why prosecutors were seeking only a total of $1.5 million in fines from the insurrectionists when Congress had shelled out $521 million in taxpayer funds…”

Because Republicans really don’t care about debt.

Is anyone here able to clarify what the last sentence in the story possibly means?

“Howell also expressed skepticism toward the distinction prosecutors have been making between insurrectionists who proudly broadcasted their involvement in the attack and those who didn’t, per Politico.”

I wasn’t aware prosecutors were making that distinction and if the judge is saying this distinction is causing charges to be lighter because of it?

Insurrection, treason, trying to stop the transfer of power: a slap on the hand?

I’m sorry, “I was just strolling through the Capitol to see what it looks like, and to share the hugs and kisses.”

Please throw the book at them and discourage MAGAts from ever doing this again.

I took it to mean they were going harder on the loudmouths, and not necessarily the behind-the-scene guys.

A DNA sample on the poop ought to point a finger.
We do this for errant pooch poo.

Why not treat these dogs the same way?
Pay for your own mess. Isn’t that a thing for libertarians?

OK, I was willing to keep my powder dry, and in deference to some on these boards who were saying…just wait, the guys who really did nasty stuff are going to get long sentences, etc.

But now it seems a Federal Judge Howell, who has been playing at the top of her game and dealing with much of the diciest and worst cases of traitorous behavior from the Chump regime, is saying…what gives?
What is with the kid glove treatment?

So, I will take my lead from her and concur that this is a pretty big deal and misdemeanor, trespassing, and $500 doesn’t cut it.

“I’m accustomed to the government being fairly aggressive in terms of fraud when there have been damages that accrue from a criminal act for the restitution amount,” Howell said, per the Washington Post.

“Where we have Congress acting, appropriating all this money due directly to the events of January 6th, I have found the damage amount of less than $1.5 million — when all of us American taxpayers are about to foot the bill for close to half a billion dollars — a little bit surprising,” the judge added.

Garland dropping the ball on these prosecutions so much that even the Judge is noticing.

To make up for it, indict TFG and fine him for rest of the damages.

1/6 was a momentous crime. What happened the previous year in other riots pales in comparison. However, if in the middle of a rally for racial justice a bunch of people smash all the windows in multiple stores, wheel out damned near the entire inventory in shopping carts, and then set the building aflame, what should the penalty be? The lives and livelihoods of many small business people were permanently set back or ruined because of last summer. But I don’t read of many people put behind bars for multiple years for engaging in some very destructive, very costly violence, theft and arson.

I have the same questions. And I’m amazed and ashamed that Merrick Garland seems to see no problem with an attempted coup against the U.S. government. Or if he does, he sure is good at hiding it.

GLOVES OFF, Damnit!
