A Michigan judge Wednesday struck down a state abortion ban still on the books from 1931, finding that it violates the due process and equal protection clauses of the Michigan constitution.
Somethings need to be repeated as it really does nail the true issue and what is at stake:
“As any woman who has experienced pregnancy and delivery knows, the process is utterly transformative of every bodily function,”
“The law also controls her ability to be the mother she wants to be,” she writes. “The statute not only compels motherhood and its attendant responsibilities; it wipes away the mother’s ability to make the plans she considers most beneficial for the futures of her existing or desired children.”
How I interpret Judge Gleicher’s comments above is what is at stake is women’s rights to plan their lives like men do and otherwise be equal to men under the law.
Something else to think about, and arising directly from these particular comments that you quoted: Can you imagine the average male judge saying these things?
This is what they meant when they said appointing women to the bench would result in an expanded perspective within the judiciary, that has wisdom and experience behind it, the equal of any others. Why diversity matters.
Yep haha…it’s amazing. “Festival like setting”? Because showing up for a “half-assed speed-physicals for poor people day” wouldn’t be at all stigmatizing and humiliating for the patients and just screams for a carnival-esque atmosphere?
ETA: it really does highlight that these fucks just don’t see others people as human beings…fundamentally incapable of it.
