You take that seat, the 1 in Alabama that was ruled illegal and then the Ohio redistricting where Republicans just refused to submit a proper map and that’s control of the House right there.

The Ohio delegation went from 12R-4D to 10R-5D with the Republican map. The Republicans were aiming for 12R-3D or 11R-4D, so the Democrats got more seats than anticipated. I’m not sure Ohio would have gotten to 9R-6D or better with the Democrats map because the Democratic voters are grouped pretty tightly together. The state that gave away seats was New York where they went over the line with the gerrymandering and got a special master’s maps instead. I think those maps gave the Republicans 4 or 5 seats.

Yeah, the middle of the road position pretending to be a deep thought. I have yet to see a far far left authoritarian who stays in power all that long. And don’t say Mao or Castro. In their hearts they were communists in word only, in deeds they were nationalists. The workers shared in exactly nothing.

Unfortunately the Judge is a tRump-appointed Federalist. He gave all the Proud Boys sentences below the sentencing guidelines. Said they weren’t really terrorists because they didn’t “mean” to kill anyone.

Based on the article reporting of DeSantis’ heavy handed autocratic style I hafta say he’d be a shitty president.
New Mexico (3 Congressional Districts) did.
The pre-2020 Census map gave Albuquerque and its exurbs one seat, and split the rest of the State into north and south more-or-less along I-40. The result was two solid D-districts (Albuquerque and the north) and one lean-R district in the south (where I was 
) Here’s the 2013-2022 version of that map:
In 2023, the map was tweaked slightly. A sizeable chunk of Little Texas (Eastern NM) was taken into the Albuquerque and northern districts, and some heavily Democratic parts of southern Albuquerque were moved in the southern district. This made the Albuquerque district more competitive and reduced the influence of heavily Republican Little Texas in the southern district.
Net result: One fewer GQP Congresscritter and an All-D delegation for La Tierra Encantada.

We over-sentence in this country. Tarrio is 38. Under Bureau of Prison rules, he has to serve at least 85% of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole. That’s 18 years and 9 months. He can earn good time at a maximum rate of 47 days per year. If he earns the maximum credit every year, he would be eligible to have BoP declare his sentence fulfilled somewhere around 19 years. (The rules surrounding good time and its crediting are pretty arcane and very open to BoP interpretation. BoP resembles other corrections authorities in that regard: Kafka and Dostoyevsky were right. So was Foucault, in that corrections authorities have worked hard to hide what they do from the public.)
Absent a pardon or a commutation, Tarrio will be somewhere between 57 and 60 when he gets out. I honestly don’t at all see that adding ten years to that would create any greater deterrent to other fanatics.
