A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
During the Sandy Hook families’ defamation trial against professional tinhatter Alex Jones on Tuesday, the judge told Jones to spit out the gum he was apparently chewing in the court. Jones insisted that he wasn’t chewing gum; he was merely using his tongue to massage the hole left by a tooth removal, and offered to show the judge the hole to prove it.
IANAL, but I gotta say, I think it’s probably bad practice to bad mouth the judge on the steps of the courthouse while your trial is still going on. I mean, I see a number of ways that could work out poorly for a defendant. And I mean “poorly” in an entirely unappealable way.
“…a federal grand jury has subpoenaed ex-White House counsel Pat Cipollone…”
It is being reported Cipollone is negotiating the terms of his response to the grand jury subpoena. I realize this is standard procedure. But to the layman it is odd. If a local grand jury subpoenaed me I wouldn’t send them a letter declaring we’re all going to have to discuss just how much I’m going to agree to comply with it. Maybe I’ll show, maybe I won’t. Maybe I’ll answer your questions, maybe I’ll tell you to piss off. People with power and money and a team of lawyers live in a different world than the rest of us when facing legal peril.
Mark McCloskey, the gun-brandishing lawyer who pointed his firearm at Black Lives Matter demonstrators in the summer of 2020, also lost. And McCloskey didn’t just lose, he was trounced, polling throughout the night at a measly 3 percent of the vote. After pointing a gun at activists, the budding MAGA icon spoke at the Republican National Convention in August 2020.
It’s on, it’s on.
Defeating them is to me the center of the battle.
So much MAGAt energy will be focused there. My lordy lord, the tRump speeches coming up will defy truth, logic, and humanity beyond anything we’ve seen yet.
The DoJ has lately been getting a ruling from the DC Circuit w/r/t “Executive Privilege.” Patsy’s in some significant legal peril, here.
(Also, I believe the only person who is actually allowed to tell us that Patsey’s been subpoenaed in Patsy himself, so that whole “sources with direct knowledge” thing should have been spelled: “Patsey Baloney.”)
I’m figuring here in western Wisconsin, we’ll cross over the 4 dollar mark in the next week - I think I saw $4.09 yesterday. Eastern Wisconsin was already over the line to three-something last weekend.
Gee, another campaign issue the Right loses. It just isn’t their week, is it…?
