Judge Chutkan Expected To Set Trial Date In Trump Jan 6 Case – TPM – Talking Points Memo

TPM reporter Emine Yücel is in the federal courthouse in D.C. this morning, where U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan is expected to set the trial date for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 case against Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. She’ll be feeding me information from the courthouse and I’ll convey it to you all below.

Fatso has FOUR attorneys at this hearing??

Judge Chutkan seems to be using her experience as a defense attorney to ensure TFG won’t have a successful appeal of his conviction in her court.

What’s that work out to? $2000 to $4000 an hour? Well, no problem; his supporters suckers can afford it.

No wonder he had to use a bailbondsman to pay his $200,000 bond

Good morning from Washington, D.C.

Trump's attorneys and prosecutors are in federal court again today, arguing over a trial date.

Last time, Judge Chutkan warned Trump that "inflammatory" statements may force her to speed up trial.

Trump's attorney John Lauro delivers an indignant monologue, which began with him referring to his client as "Mr. Trump," before catching himself and saying, "President Trump."

— Adam Klasfeld (@KlasfeldReports) August 28, 2023

Twice in his monologue, Judge Chutkan chided Lauro to "take the temperature down."

The second admonition came shortly after this line exclaimed by Lauro:

"For the federal government to suggest that I can do this in four months is an outrage — an outrage to justice."

“Neither is acceptable,” she added.

Sure it is. The prosecution’s proposed date is more than reasonable.

No, it really isn’t. But March/April will do just fine.

I hope he brings this up

Lauro is pissing off the Judge. Typical Mob lawyer.

Ummm, what’s the old saw from the former party of personal responsibility: if he can’t do the time, then he shouldn’t have done the crime?

It's noticeable how Trump's defense attorney is speaking over the judge .. in multiple exchanges during this argument

This is dickering. Just like buying a used car. The prosecution goes high. The defense kicks the tires and points to the dent in the fender and makes a ridiculous lowball offer. The Judge splits the difference give the defense April and the Prosecution 2024.
