TPM reporter Emine Yücel is in the federal courthouse in D.C. this morning, where U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan is expected to set the trial date for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 case against Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. She’ll be feeding me information from the courthouse and I’ll convey it to you all below.

Judge Chutkan seems to be using her experience as a defense attorney to ensure TFG won’t have a successful appeal of his conviction in her court.

What’s that work out to? $2000 to $4000 an hour? Well, no problem; his supporters suckers can afford it.

“Neither is acceptable,” she added.
Sure it is. The prosecution’s proposed date is more than reasonable.

Ummm, what’s the old saw from the former party of personal responsibility: if he can’t do the time, then he shouldn’t have done the crime?

This is dickering. Just like buying a used car. The prosecution goes high. The defense kicks the tires and points to the dent in the fender and makes a ridiculous lowball offer. The Judge splits the difference give the defense April and the Prosecution 2024.
