Speaker Johnson to delay sending Mayorkas impeachment to Senate | The Hill
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has agreed to Senate conservatives’ request that he delay sending two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas until next week.
The House had been slated to send the articles to the Senate on Wednesday.
“To ensure the Senate has adequate time to perform its constitutional duty, the House will transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate next week. There is no reason whatsoever for the Senate to abdicate its responsibility to hold an impeachment trial,” Johnson’s spokesperson Taylor Haulsee said.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) responded to the revised timeline by announcing that Senate Democrats will move quickly to quash the impeachment charges whenever they arrive from the House.
“We’re ready to go whenever they are. We are sticking with our plan. We’re going to move this as expeditiously as possible,” he said

I’m not an expert on mental illness other than having anecdotal evidence from a family member whose life was destroyed by it due to refusing treatment, but I don’t think it’s equivalent to vax denial or anti-mask sentiment with Republicans. Severe mental illness can take over one’s brain completely, to the point where politics is basically irrelevant.

Can’t be said enough - these nominal christians don’t have any faith they can convince people of their unpopular beliefs, so they have to get government to codify them.

The Republican Party is a safe haven for violent, delusional, angry men. Of course women, too but the overwhelming majority of violent people attracted to the party seem to be men (based on reporting of incidents all over the US). We know that they are Republican because they are running for office and seem to think that they are not subject to laws and, well, behavioral boundaries. Yet, Republicans that we listen to such as Cheney and Kinzinger say nothing.
Why are pundits talking about possible violence if Trump is defeated? They know these people are unconstrained and they are Republican. It is one thing to be fearful of a splinter group but this is an entire political party - the aggressors and the apologists. We need to be talking a lot more about Republicans and violence. To assume that there won’t be increasing violence toward every “other” is to be extremely naive.
