A federal judge in Texas blocked Biden administration guidance that reminded physicians of what the government interprets as their obligation to perform abortions during medical emergencies, even in states where the procedure is banned entirely.
Fuck this fucking state that I am forced to fucking work in because I won’t fucking abandon my students. Instead, I tell them “get your degree and/or a job and move the hell out of Texas.”
The Republicans could not make it clearer if they drove around with a megaphone shouting “ we don’t think anyone has rights a white man is bound to obey”. They will not stop until we stop them at the ballot box.
Note that this ruling applies nationwide to members of two anti-abortion groups- so even in states that protect abortion rights can the ER doc (who you don’t get to pick) decide you’re not close enough to death to get miscarriage care?
I think that judge needs to visit an ER for a few hours… and watch as women die because for that judge’s asinine thinking. Judges and lawmakers should not practice medicine without a license!!!
How many women are going to die as a result of this profound ignorance on the part of judges, mostly men, who have no idea what they are talking about when they talk about the “health of the mother”. Many times, in difficult pregnancies, the decision to do something must be made on the spot - there is no time for fear of prosecution, trials and appeals. By taking decisions away from medical professionals they are creating a hellscape of fear, indecision and prolonged suffering that simply should not exist in a modern society.
And…
Lindsey thinks he himself should dictate what he can say in his testimony. Little fucking dictator…
… … … … …
Washington (CNN) – Sen. Lindsey Graham on Wednesday told a federal court that it should bar a grand jury’s questioning of the South Carolina Republican “on all the topics” sought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in the subpoena for Graham’s testimony as part of an investigation into plots to illegally influence Georgia’s 2020 election results.
Graham also asked the court to block questioning of him on “other topics” suggested by outside groups that have weighed in on the dispute over the subpoena in friend-of-the court briefs.
… … … … … …
This is not the bar in the Constitution against questioning debate.
Yes, handing off picking federal judges to the Federalist Society theocratic loons was a mistake the ‘smarter’ Rs made from hubris. After 50 years of collecting votes from extremist religious types by pretending they wanted to end Roe v. Wade, and then doing nothing much to make it happen, they got lazy and let the extremist authoritarian christers at the Federalist Society and in state legislatures go wild. They made a huge mistake. November will tell just how big a mistake it is.
He argues that the guidance also does away with consideration for the embryo or fetus. The government contends that, when the wellbeing of the woman and embryo or fetus are in conflict, it should be the pregnant patient who decides whether or not to go forth with an abortion. Hendrix says that the decision should be taken out of the woman’s hands and put into the doctor’s — who has to then comply with state law.
The embryo/fetus will die if the mother dies. So, if it comes down to saving the life of the mother -who may have other children- it is the lawyers who decide for the doctor. Sorry but this is the sad reality.
That the ‘state’ gets to decide on the fate of a woman, or anybody, in a state of medical/surgical emergency is ignorant, fascist bullshit. It’s a god damned death panel, all you fucked up christo fakes. Any health care provider cannot possibly obey this garbage and uphold their oath to “First, do no harm”.
And it’s really the best example we could possibly see that tells us where the separation of church and state must be protected. Doing the right thing in medicine is an act of love and compassion. Avoiding that responsibility, actually negating it, is both hateful and criminal.
