House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) — who has repeatedly questioned the polls showing Democrats flipping the House of Representatives — insisted Tuesday there will be a “peaceful transfer of power” following the midterm elections. Johnson called the question asking him to commit to a peaceful transfer of power in January regardless of what the results…

Given the habits of Republicans I assume Johnson’s remarks mean that he’s already picked out the Rhodesian lapel pin he’ll wear when he announces that the next House term cannot begin until all DoJ investigations have concluded or some other nonsense.

“Of course, we’ll have a peaceful transfer of power, but it will not be transferring because we are going to keep the majority, and I’m going to be the Speaker of the House, and I will keep steady hands at the wheel, OK?

the other election when the Republicans had a majority with a stalwart speaker of the house:

so reassuring from a speaker that knows nothing about criminal activity in his own party when asked, or how govt. works, or what his president is up to

It will be a joy to see a Dem face in the Speaker’s slot.

Hey Mikey! Lying for your Orange Lord is not gonna make it past Jesus.

Peaceful transistion my ass. This is the same crowd that brought us January 6. There is no doubt Johnson will claim the entire process was rigged and will try to seat 435 Republicans.

All he has to do to get past Jesus is wink and nod and ask forgiveness.

Who exactly is the “they” who supposedly want to suppress Republican turnout? I know Johnson and the other sellouts who’ll say anything don’t actually believe any of this, but who is it they want the rubes to believe is suppressing their vote?

Is it just an all-purpose “they,” encompassing anyone not openly pro-GOP?

I fail to see the wisdom of this approach of pretending they will win. IMO it would be much more effective to say something like “yes we are in for a fight” if he wants to invigorate his troops, pretending they are winning will just lead more to say “I don’t need to vote”.

While I am not a “constitutional attorney“ (whatever that’s supposed to be), I have read the original document. Guess what, Chuckles, you will not be Speaker, as the House is dissolved after two years term. If his fantasy of maintaining his majority magically occurs, I’m pretty sure the new House elects a new Speaker. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Saddle up, Mikey!

‘Our record speaks for itself’ said the Speaker as he expressed snake-oil from his nipples.

Somehow they’re the most popular party of the majority of REAL Americans - but they also don’t trust that vast majority to vote, either.

What I understand if I understand it correctly is that on Jan 3 the current Congress is dissolved, Johnson is no longer speaker, so he can announce whatever the F he wants , whether or not he’s already resigned in disgrace pretty much nobody will care.

“The House is not a continuing body” - see https://electionlawblog.org/2025/the-house-is-not-a-continuing-body/

The concerns should be over Trump’s folks trying to prevent state certifications (with which the current House has no role), not what Mike Johnson will do (correction: cannot do unless selected by the new House as Speaker) on Jan 3 2027.

One thing Johnson knows is Absurdity. He is the living embodiment of the absurd.
