The Associated Press and NBC News have projected 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden as the winner of Arizona’s Democratic primary race on Tuesday night.
For the 1st time, I’m cautiously optimistic that Sen. Sanders will make a gracious exit from the race and actively support the Dem nominee. The dual risks of the Covid-19 virus and a 2nd Trump administration have made it very difficult for him to justify continuing his candidacy. As some commenters on other threads have suggested, this would be a great time for Sen. Sanders to cement his place in history.
“With Biden’s decisive wins on Tuesday night, 2020 rival Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) path to the nomination has shrunk considerably.”
I think it’s fairer to say it in nonexistent. Why do people treat Sanders with such gentle deference when any other candidate would be shamed and hounded from the race as an egoist and spoiler?
I guess “Follow the money” will not be applied here!
The article in WaPo said he’s spending the next few weeks assessing his campaign.
I say all right, all ready, it’s time for him to go. What, he’s going to wait around to see if either he or Biden comes down with CORVID? Somehow, thinks he might have one last chance.
We are in unprecedented times and we don’t need Mr. Ego hanging on to help make things worse.
Someone give him a camera that is off and just say its being broadcast to everyone so he can just spend his time yelling into it. That’s all he wants after all.

@jimtoday…maybe Sanders is treated with this deference because of the threats to vote for someone other than Biden in the General (or sulk and not vote at all)…which may have helped give us Trump in the first place. I wish I had a nickel for all of the threats of non-participation from the Bernie crew which was airlifted and dropped in on TPM about the time of the IA, NH and NV Primaries
But I agree with you.
The statement we are both referencing in the story is dazzling in its understatement.
Simple: the core of Sanders’s voters (no, by no means all of them or even most, but the core) are the gamer/cosplayer/fanboy stereotypes who are the Left’s equivalent of the Right’s Bible Thumpers: people who prefer to live in a fantasy world rather than reality. Remember, about 1.6 million of them turned around and voted for Trump in 2016, apparently from the Marxist motivation to “heighten the contradictions.” They tend to be self-righteous and inflexible. That’s why the Democratic establishment feels they have to be handled with kid gloves: because they might get their widdle feelings hurt. In truth, they could turn the election.
Imagine a scenario in which the Imperial College report turned out to be correct: 2.2 million deaths in the US in the worst case. Do we really want to wake up on a Wednesday in November with Trump re-elected while mass burial pits are being dug? Anybody here want that?
It’s over and he knows it. He just needs to communicate that fact effectively to his supporters and to direct their passion towards electing a Democrat and firing Donald Trump in November.
I think it’s time to ignore the most rabid provocateurs who identify as his supporters and instead focus on increasing voter enrollment and working to ensure that state election procedures in November allow all voters to cast their ballot in a pandemic environment.
I think Bernie presents a complex situation for pragmatic progressives and that’s why he is treated with kid gloves.
HIs BIG picture goals are very alluring. We wish for a utopian society, BUT we know that we can NEVER reach that level of perfection. We know it’s better to look for ways to incrementally make improvements and level the playing field.
The element that is hard to fight, but MUST be fought is the “Fault that lies in ourselves.” Power attracts and corrupts. No matter which side gets in power, it becomes self-centered over time. That is true for ALL types of government and economic systems. That’s why I do think our country has the best basic structure that allows for give and take of power. The extreme emergency we are now living in could lead to a cleaning out of the system…or a total collapse…I don’t know. I can only hope. Stay safe and try to support the best impulses of yourself and those around you.
The 1.6 million includes figures from open primaries so we should be cautious about taking that as Bernie Bro Core. Some of that were Tea Partiers in open primary states.
