Jennifer Williams Describes ‘Unusual’ Trump-Zelensky Call

Jennifer Williams, a foreign policy aide to Vice President Mike Pence, testified Tuesday about listening in on the July 25 call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The credibility of anyone who considers it an “honor” to work for Mike Pence has to be questioned.

Don’t know about much else, but Toni Collette is a shoe-in to play Williams when the movie comes out.

She’s got dead Republican eyes. See: Stephen Miller. As a matter of fact, she resembles Miller very closely.

No doubt. Also, this seems odd, given her stated concern:

I did not discuss the July 25th call with the Vice President or any of my colleagues in the Office of the Vice President or the NSC.

Seriously?

I assume that if she was working for Pence that her chaperone heard the conversation as well?

Does mother know he has a woman working for him?

Could this be part of a “protect the Vice President” subplot? is Pence more Iago than Malvolio?

Correction:

“Jennifer Williams, a [very soon to be] former foreign policy aide to Vice President Mike Pence…”

But, good for her, she did the right thing, all the more commendable given the likely consequences for her and that she’s a Repub. See, there are some good ones.

Pence is an opportunistic and soulless snake, so, perhaps. But, right now we’re focused on Trump. Pence we can handle with what remaining time he might have in office.

She could always leave the dark side and join the rest of us in the sunshine.

She seems like she might have the semblance of a functioning moral compass. I wonder how she squares that with the fact that she works for that weasel VP Q-Tip.

She’s a career State Dept official and Russia expert who’s been tasked to assist Pence with Russia matters. She’s not a Trumpie.

See above. Not a Trumpie.

I think that’s what bothers me about this. In proceedings like this, glowing statements about POTUS, VP & co, as well as what a privilege it is/was to work for them, are almost literally pro forma.

Adherence to decorum leads us to a situation where even the prosecution’s fact witnesses are likely to begin their testimony with unsolicited praise for the accused. Not just an honorific, but effusive, eloquent praise.

It matters what we say. It’s bad enough we have to call McConnell, Graham, Collins, etc. “The Honorable.” But it’s not just a matter of degree to “expand” that to the point of bowing and scraping before the accused. Who is, recall, a Russian asset actively sabotaging US interests at every turn from the single most powerful position on Earth.

Like you said, it’s pro forma, and we shouldn’t read too much into it. Many of them still hold these jobs and to not do this would endanger their positions. It’s how the game is played. You do realize that it’s a game, always has been, always will be. Those myths about the god-like founders and framers are just that, myths, and in reality they were just as petty, dishonest, flawed and scheming as today’s pols, only they were more formal and elegant about it. So, focus on their actual testimony, not their pro forma opening plaudits. Those mean as much as “My distinguished colleague from across the aisle”.
