I’m probably oversimplifying, but I see two major forces that got us to today:
“Culturally” the anger of the old Confederate states has never diminished much, if at all.
That comes with a large component of bigotry toward blacks and people of foreign origin. Just check out a Trump rally and note what they bounce to. It ain’t Tommy Dorsey. It is exactly like a Hitler or Mussolini rally only in English. No substantive differences.
Then, in the past 6, 8 years we’ve been seeing $billionaires who plainly want us to become an autocracy to further their own ends that are primarily the desire to enhance their wealth.
And they’ll hire useful idiots like Trump and Vance to oversee the autocracy.
If you told me 10 years ago I would be saying something like this I would think you did not have both oars in the water.

To keep her momentum, Harris has to launch some attacks on Vance for Rumble, on Trump for making Sylvia Massey’s murder possible, and get the GOP to spend its time explaining things. She can still primarily focus on policy, but they need to prevent letting the GOP echo machine do what it does best – elevate false attacks into 24/7 noise that creates doubt.
Otherwise we move into a cycle where Trump controls the narrative again.

Project 2025 truly is an “originalist” manifesto. The goal is to revert 250 years to the time when only “white men of property” were eligible to rule. My (conspiracy) theory is that the Koch/Thiele, Musk, etc. plan is to get Trump back in, pack the government with their “people”, and then invoke the 25th amendment. Then their fully owned candidate becomes president, and that’s all she wrote … bye bye democracy, hello plutocracy.
