OT: Well, isn’t this interesting:

Supreme Court rejects appeal over press access in Wisconsin | AP News

The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a conservative think tank over Gov. Tony Evers’ decision to exclude the group’s writers from press briefings.

The justices acted without comment Monday, leaving in place lower court rulings that said the decision is legal.

Something finally went the governor’s way. Only a matter of time before the lege makes and passes a law saying the contrary that starts the legal process all over again.

If former advisers to Trump invoke the 5th Amendment, do they know that any communication with Trump directly or through others may be used as evidence of a conspiracy to obstruct justice? Asking for a friend.

Who exactly was the National Guard supposed to protect Trump supporters from? The Capitol Police and other branches of law enforcement? Because there certainly wasn’t Antifa or any left wing organization there. So I have to presume they were going to send the National Guard to prevent police from protecting congress. That’s pretty damn chilling.

That is interesting from a first amendment standpoint and a court that has been pretty much of a first amendment advocate.

and @pshah - excellent! That’s the 24 billion dollar question.

An executive branch official who makes a colorable claim of privilege is simply taking the course they believe the law requires them to take,” he wrote. “The executive privilege and testimonial immunity do not belong to individual executive officials and they are not free to waive it. It would be unjust to refer such an official for prosecution before a court even has a chance to pass upon the merits of their claims.”

yes, i know Trump’s case is headed to SCOTUS, next question.

In what alternate reality would National Guardsmen obey orders to attack the Capitol Police? No, that idea doesn’t hold up.

There was no shortage of crazy ideas being floated in the WH, but I don’t think even that group would have considered this to be plausible. The military doesn’t have to obey an illegal order, and I can’t think of anything more patently illegal than attacking or otherwise preventing the police from doing their job.

ETA: I’m assuming the “protect Trump’s people” bit was about the expected Antifa who didn’t show up.

Unclear since they were not deployed in advance, but it seems likely that Trump wanted troops on hand so he could declare some kind of emergency as an excuse to stop the vote certification when his mob inevitably attacked the Capitol. There are plenty of messages showing that the insurrectionists expected both street-brawling with anti-Trump people and a presidential declaration of emergency on J6. Not that any of that would have stopped the vote certification, of course.

By the time the certification started, the only remaining plan appears to have been for the mob to fuck up Congress’s shit in the hope that it would delay certification long enough for friendly state legislatures to send in new slates of electors. Not that that was ever going to work either, but these people are not very smart and they were basically just flailing.

Maybe you’re right, I’m just trying to figure out their stated purpose for sending the National Guard per Meadows. Trump’s supporters were clearly the aggressors, no one else. So what do you think the NG was supposed to do if not that? There were no parties present that threatened the insurrectionists.

I will note the delay in sending the NG by the military may well have been because they didn’t want to see the military coerced into supporting a coup attempt.

You mean the partisan election review that yielded Biden 360 additional votes?

That makes sense. Instigating enough violence to justify declaring emergency powers. It’s too bad Antifa didn’t cooperate…

It’s interesting the Trump Administration apparently didn’t think the Oathkeepers and Proud Boys could handle Antifa on their own, if that supposition is correct.

I still want to know about why the delay in sending the NG.

ETA. I have to question the quality of their Intelligence services if they truly thought substantial numbers of Antifa were going to be present. That’s a pretty significant miss.

“Mr. Bluster” is on the wrong side of history. So far, the System has averted the worst. No thanks to shills like him, who have benefited from that very System for the quality of their lives. Because they are so protected by that System, they cannot imagine what real dictatorship and “the-law-is-what-I-say” life is like

Isn’t conspiracy to interfere with Georgia’s ballot counting a crime?

Rather more likely, I think, that Trump wanted troops on hand so he could order them to lock down the Capitol – including the electoral certification – if the expected clashes broke out. Not that it ever would have worked out that way, obviously. I also suspect that the plan changed after Pence made it clear he wasn’t going to play the White House’s gambit of rejecting electors. Until that happened on January 5, the idea seems to have been to parlay Pence and the mob into some kind of emergency declaration allowing for legislatures to send in new slates of electors. After Pence said no, the plan just became to have the mob fuck up Congress’s shit and hope for things to work out in Trump’s favor.
