Jan. 6 Participant Who Right-Wing Media Cast As Agent Provocateur Speaks Out

Ray Epps, a 61-year-old former Marine, called for Trump supporters to march into the U.S. Capitol building the night prior to the Capitol attack, and then joined them as they entered the restricted grounds outside the Capitol on the day of the riot.

I also heard he spray painted “Biden 2020” on some dude’s home in Minnesota, then set fire to the guy’s truck.

Frist!

" Epps was publicly targeted by Tucker Carlson, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and even Donald Trump himself…"

Targeted by Gaetz???

I mean the guy hardly looks like a 16 year old girl.

Sorry, could not pass it up.

In fairness, it is kind of defamatory to be falsely accused of being a cop. Just not for the reasons this guy thinks it should be defamatory.

Also, defamation is for injury to the plaintiff’s reputation. Being an insurrectionist makes you pretty close to defamation-proof.

Epps is quoted as saying about his being scapegoated, “It’s just not right. The American people are being led down a path. I think it should be criminal.” This from a man who joined a riot that breached the Capitol because he wanted “stop the steal.” Okay, chief…

Defamation to who?

That is in the groups this guy hangs with, maybe calling him a “peacekeeper” is defamatory.

I’m only joking so don’t feel the need to site © chapter and verse.

I’m surprised he’s not blaming antifa for his trubbles.

Then… he became their scapegoat, accused of being a Deep State-directed agent provocateur .

No good deed goes unpunished.

It’s one’s general public reputation that counts. Your reputation with the other insurrectionists doesn’t matter at all.

“You can’t convince some people”. Boy, you sure got that right-starting with my Concresscritter Rep Michael C Burgess who voted not to impeach.

Is being falsely called a pigeon defamatory?

And if the change (improvement) in reputation leads to death threats against you, what recourse?

“You can’t convince some people,” he said. “There are extremists out there that you’ll never convince them that they’re wrong.”

It may well be the Planet which makes us One People**. Some quite savvy individuals have managed to exacerbate differences, highlight disagreements and champion in-civility at every turn.

** Barack Obama campaigned and won the Presidency with roughly the same groups of people.

The actions needed for our self-rescue do not lend themselves to warring factions hyped-up by talking points and RWNJ stoking.

Another cut for the troll army. More please.

Probably not. As noted, it’s the plaintiff’s general public reputation that matters, not his reputation among the Gambino Family.

Being called a betrayor of friends and associates is not defamatory depending on the quality of the friends?

"There are extremists out there that you’ll never convince them that they’re wrong.”

I would edit this down to There are extremists out there that you’ll never convince are wrong.

Like my husband always told our kids, “be careful with who you hang out it with, their reputation becomes your reputation.” Mr. Epps you were spending time with the wrong type of people if you were not like them.
