Jan. 6 Panel Takes Crucial Step of Broadening Probe Beyond Capitol Attack

Two new batches of subpoenas from the House Jan. 6 committee send a strong signal that the panel will not over-focus on the Capitol attack as an isolated event, but will instead investigate the full Trump conspiracy to subvert the 2020 election.

If you see a rat, there are probably 10 more that you don’t see. Time to break out the D-Con.

Which is why Trump and the Republicans want to kill tit.

Cast a very, very wide net and you’ll catch a lot of fish, or in this case, seditionists. There are a lot of them.

'That includes demands for interviews and documents from former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and from former senior adviser Stephen Miller…"

Hey, remember when Stephen Miller said, “The powers of the President shall not be questioned!”

So I guess he’s good with a President’s powers to enforce Congressional subpoenas.

It looks like some defense lawyers are gonna be sending their kids, or grandkids, to a better college.

Maybe the Koch’s, Mercers, Murdochs and other soulless fascist enablers can put up some funds to more comfortably house their many corrupt and criminal friends as they serve out their terms. A GOP prison in some backward rural area would help the area’s dying economy and they could make it a little more cushy than the standard prison. I would definitely like a tour once they fill it up.

It certainly sounds promising. We’ll see what happens with the subpoenas I guess.

And when the subpoenas are ignored?

Don’t say shit like that. It’s bad enough that these assholes are going to defend their refusal to comply with the subpoenas by complaining that they exceed the committees’ authority and purview based on the legislation approving its formation. We don’t need the fucking “news” outlets making their case for them.

I remember Kayleigh McEwan promised to never lie to us in her press briefings which she then rarely ever held. Of course defending someone like trump kinda backed her into fibs and untruths but now if she is brought under oath it’ll be a whole different ball game.

Only if he gets to pick the president.

If you wear a cross, you’re allowed to lie.

It’s the law!

Ummm. Nope. This is beyond a simple case. The subpoena was served, the process server will have provided a proof of service. No doubt there was also direct communication with Bannon and his attorney to confirm whether he would appear in advance. He did not appear. There is no impediment to prosecutors filing charges immediately and evaluating his defenses later on - just like they do when they arrest little guys and minorities and ask questions later.

The power of contempt is in its swiftness, certainty, and the indeterminate time one can rot in a cell awaiting release. That is why a judge issues immediate bench warrants or has the sheriff immediately arrest persons who are displaying contempt in the courtroom. Congress needs to start acting like a co-equal branch of the United States of America (a pretty awesome and awe-inspiring collection of states) instead of acting like the government of some fourth-world failed state.
