Jan 6 Panel Subpoenaed Phone Records Of Sebastian Gorka

That was my gut reaction. Even in the glory days he was a peripheral figure to anything and the only way he’s ever been effectively silenced is by the good news judgment of editors who see he has nothing to say and is just a grandiose butthole. If he has any useful information then I suppose he might be considered the Kato Kaelin of the day, an obscure, faintly clownish figure who just happened to be tenuously involved. He’s too small, folks, throw him back.

Probably because they don’t recruit based on character, if that’s even possible. It’s almost strictly on academic achievement, proficiency at an extracurricular activity, or family connections. Leaves a lot of room for sociopaths.

[“The toxic forces rending this country apart will only be strengthened, and the goal of more tranquil times will be more elusive, if any party holding a majority of seats in the House of Representatives can hunt down and persecute citizens, including journalists, because of their political sympathies and speech in an effort to silence that speech,” he wrote.]

Filing these lawsuits is an obvious delay tactic, but it’s not likely to work for very long. The courts are not going to quash the subpoenas, and so far I haven’t even seen an order staying any of them pending a hearing on a motion for preliminary injunction. Which means that before too much longer, these schmucks are going to end up in naked contempt, and they will get referred for it.

And in the meantime, a lot of people who know exactly what the subpoena-resisters said and did and have the receipts to prove it are quietly cooperating with the committee. Tick tock, assholes.

I wonder why he doesn’t just go back to Hungary. Orban has basically succeeded in what Trump miserably failed at. Could it be as simple as losers are attracted to other losers?

To those pessimistic about the possibility of justice for the insurrectionists:

Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.

Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate.

What is the maximum penalty for failure to comply with a House subpoena? I seem to recall some articles citing 60 days in jail and a nominal (for most of these people) $10,000 fine. If so I can envision many of them risking, and going, to jail, wearing it forever going forward as a badge of honor for protecting Trump. Ingratiating yourself with right wing power brokers can be extremely lucrative.

Not to mention our military academies. Witness Pompeo, Flynn, and the many tfg supporters that initially were proud to join his maladministration.

All the committee is asking for is Gorka’s cell phone records. I don’t know why they would be interested in those records – maybe they’ve just seen his number on other people’s phone records and therefore want to know who else he was in touch with – but the limited scope of what they’re asking for doesn’t indicate that they’re treating him as anything other than a bit player.

Playboy guy missed the opportunity for a cracking headbutt right there. Forehead straight to the teeth.

The mouth like an overworked vagina. I loathe this man. He thinks because he’s tall he’s tough. Nope.

I like that. Also always like this, from Shakespeare:

Beware of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,
Bear’t that the opposèd may beware of thee.

These goofs all think they’re the manly men with their guns and their pickups, and Democrats are koombayah-singing hippies. Personally I think that can lead you into errors, like thinking it makes any sense to fuck with Adam Schiff. Me, I wouldn’t do it. He’s always struck me as the kind of guy who typically has the last word. Nancy comes to mind as well. People more experienced in finishing trouble than in starting it, you might say.

In this case the subpoena is to Verizon; once the court tosses the motion to quash, the committee gets the records. (Meanwhile, Verizon will not delete them…)

Minimum 30 days, maximum 1 year. And I should note that Gorka isn’t running that risk, since the subpoena is to Verizon, not him. So he needs to obtain some kind of stay or injunction before the compliance date or Verizon’s likely to just hand over the requested records.

It gives me some satisfaction knowing there are smart, highly motivated, knowledgeable, focused people going for Trump’s jugular.

OK, so refusing to comply is a year. I’ll wager many people targeted by the House can rest assured no judge will slap them with the maximum term, a year. And I’m betting more than a few are willing to serve some time rather than spill their guts. I think we’ll see some let this all play out and continue to tell the 1/6 committee to pound sand. Are the courts really going to throw Jim Jordan, Kevin McCarthy, Mark Meadows and several other GOP luminaries in jail? I think not. I say the stature and position of many has them in the position to refuse to comply, forever.

This is really quite unfair. Buttholes, however humble or grand, serve a purpose.
