Several members of the Jan. 6 Select Committee on Sunday argued that there is enough evidence for Attorney General Merrick Garland to open a criminal investigation into former President Trump after the panel’s public hearings detailed its case that the deadly Capitol insurrection was the result of a multi-step, concerted effort by Trump and his allies to subvert the 2020 election results.

I’m still astounded that TFG has not already been arrested and charged with election tampering for repeatedly harassing Georgia officials to “find”–read, manufacture-- him 11,000 plus votes.
Like the proverbial Mafia boss, Benedict Donald has been dodging direct criminal involvement* for a long time and although the J6 Committee has identified multiple smoking guns I suspect it will take a real flip by one of the conspiracy’s insiders to fire up a prosecution. Still, if it hasn’t already done so, I would hope DOJ is not only working bottom-up from J6 but also investigating this as a hub and spoke conspiracy with multiple prongs extending further back in time than the January 6 assault on Congress.
The hearings should inspire the Justice Department to rethink its approach: A myopic focus on the Jan. 6 riot is not the way to proceed if you are trying to follow the facts where they lead and to hold people ‘at any level’ criminally accountable, as Attorney General Merrick Garland promised.
I’m pretty confident Trump is facing legal repercussions in multiple jurisdictions including from the DOJ. We have some pretty suggestive evidence of that. But fundamentally he’s already boned. He was lamely complaining at Turning Point USA that he wouldn’t have thrown food, he eats food, he doesn’t throw it haha, and he has too much respect for the White House etc. etc. Maybe he’d be better off if he did throw it haha, standard lame dad joke about overeating, the whole thing so sad and lame you just know he’s lost his fastball. You can’t be asserting without a shred of backup that you didn’t throw a plate of food against the wall in a childish rage and hope to seem anything but pathetic. We have Murdoch papers saying a guy who sat watching as the Capitol was attacked shouldn’t be given power again. Murdoch. Papers. They know he’s a liability. Reportedly Ronna’s telling him declare before the midterms and we won’t pay your legal bills. Which suggests he’s broke and they know it, and they have him over a barrel. Boned. Quite, quite boned. This is how it always ends, with Trump. This is how it always, always ends.
Holy crap! You mean the DOJ is going to do something, finally, after months and months of doing nothing, after Garland took a long nap and finally woke up, just like Rip Van Winkle, like…
I think “needs to be charged” should be stated as to which specific crimes. The article suggests:
He could be prosecuted for “obstructing an official proceeding” in his efforts to block the Electoral College vote.
He could be prosecuted for “conspiracy to defraud the United States” for his various schemes to overturn the election.
The article says he could be prosecuted for “dereliction of duty” for his refusal to intervene to stop the attack on the Capitol. This is a military crime. Can he, as Commander in chief, be subject to military law?
He could be prosecuted for “inciting an insurrection.” (I guess the criminal statute is 18 U.S. Code § 2383).
If DoJ has not already opened a criminal investigation into trump’s OBVIOUS crimes then the DoJ is useless, pointless and anarchy reigns. They would be delinquent in the extreme. I could spend an hour here listing trumps various crimes but what;s the fucking point if he will never be charged? The worst is he failed at stopping the pandemic in its earliest stages and now over a million Americans are dead. The next would be his betrayal of America by attempting to seize power when he lost the election. There is a lot more. But if the DoJ has not yet bothered to even begin investigating this degenerate then why do we obey laws? Why have them? What good are they?
Praps trump could personally murder someone on 5th ave in broad daylight and not be held to account.
