Jan. 6 Panel Makes Case For Slapping Navarro And Scavino With Contempt Charges

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

The House Jan. 6 Committee filed a 34-page report on Sunday night laying out how ex-White House trade adviser Peter Navarro and ex-White House social media director Dan Scavino ought to be held in criminal contempt for repeatedly flouting the committee’s subpoenas.

“FOR GOD’S SAKE, THIS MAN CANNOT REMAIN IN POWER!"

I’m glad Joe said it. I’m loving it’s ambiguities. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the faux consternation from the usual suspects. Putin’s a shit. His vile war earns him a ticket to Hell.

Getting slapped with contempt charges by Congress has proven roughly the equivalent of getting your tires chalked by the meter maid downtown.

everything was just one big misunderstanding due to poor cell phone reception.
That’s Guilty, Guilty, Guilty!
Can you hear me now?

It’s small potatoes I know. But that slap by Will Smith was real and really disgusting. People who get rich and important can get awfully foolish.

Someone having done the same thing to a Capitol policeman on 1/6 would be trying to plea the charges down to a misdemeanor to avoid jail.

How did this not make the Morning Memo?

Am I being a bullheaded American by thinking the outcry over Biden’s remarks is completely overblown? Isn’t the fact that Putin can’t stay in power after all this kinda common sense? It’s not even saying the quiet part out loud; pretty sure a goal of the sanctions is to get his oligarchs and/or the Russian people to say enough is enough and take matters into their own hands. So what’s everyone complaining about? How is it at all being interpreted as Biden saying America will take direct action?

I expect this response from the Kremlin, but it’s Europe I’m shocked about. Or not, because according to The Guardian, Boris has been considering a timeline to roll back sanctions (seriously?), and Biden being clear that the endgame can only be Putin getting tfo puts a wrench in that.

(Oh an I’m on Team Fake Slap. It got the exact reaction the Oscars so desperately needed in light of declining ratings. Look, we’re even talking about it on TPM.)

Yeah: what’s the deal here? Is the pundit class going to gasp and rend their garments because Mr. Biden was too nasty to Vladimir Putin? I mean, I know we can’t make him mad: he might invade a neighboring country or something…

But this is all contempt is. It’s a recommendation to the DOJ to press charges against the individual. Congress has no power to take further action on its own. It’s still important, even if it’s not literally throwing the idiot into prison then and there.

All the more reason for those cited to not be worried…

I’ll bet that wasn’t the first time Chris Rock got hit for making a joke. Lord knows David Letterman has said plenty of things he could have got smacked for. Not that it’s ever “right” to assault someone.

At least we get more information about Trump’s death. They were pretty tight-lipped when Harold Borstein, Trump’s doctor died.

Well, he might be able to keep his job…The Rubes will vote for him again…but if he can’t keep his Grift-Train Rolling and bring in all that illegal cash and use his office for illegal benefit of himself and his glorious “christian” friends, what’s the point?

There are steps to this process of accountability. I’d rather there be something than nothing at all. Also Bannon has already been indicted, so thus far the process is working.

Yeah, the government embarked on those “steps” with Ken Paxton. In 2015. And he still hasn’t progressed to the trial stage.

The justice process in this country is broken. And a joke.
