This was predictable. I’m hoping an indictments drop Nov. 9. I think that’s exactly why he’s announcing that week. I can see him announcing at 12:01 am on Wednesday.
It shouldn’t stop any indictments, but it will certainly be grist for the nut job media.
In an email from Chesebro to Eastman and several others sent on Dec. 31, 2020, Chesebro argued that Thomas would “end up being key” to asking the high court to overturn then-President-elect Joe Biden’s win in contested states, and that they should “frame things so that Thomas could be the one to issue some sort of stay or other circuit justice opinion saying Georgia is in legitimate doubt.”
If the GoP takes the House I can see the first … and last … meeting of the reconstituted Jan 6 Special Committee giving him the opportunity to “speak”!
Under oath? That would be hilarious, but I can’t see his lawyers allowing it. He can’t help but incriminate himself by opening his mouth about what he did or didn’t do on J6, even if Jim Jordan is there to hold his hand and carefully lead him through the answers to questions. He’s a walking self-incrimination bomb.
The GOP can’t remove Garland without a Senate supermajority conviction after a House impeachment, which isn’t going to happen this cycle. The DOJ prosecutions on the docs and the fake electors scheme will roll on, and there is nothing an R-controlled House can do about it.
Trump would have to be crazy to testify on anything related to J6 while the justice department still has two years to nail his ass for conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruct a Congressional proceeding.
I have no problem with it being live testimony. In fact, they should allow it. If he wants to keep lying under oath on live television might as well make it part of a Congressional investigation… instead of his mouthing off whenever and however he wants when not under oath.
If he appears to testify he could be expected to hijack the news media with his presidential run announcement on Nov. 14, as he enters and exits the Committee’s offices, inciting his base even further against the Committee.
