Wow!! I’m the first commenter? It’s after 7:00 am in Alaska which is 11:00 on the East Coast so what’s going on with the hearing? I thought it was to start at 10:00. Edit to say I missed the discobot notice at the top of thread saying the hearing would not start until 1:00. Any idea on when or why they changed the time?

Luttig’s statement reads like something the Proud Boys will approve of.

Worshipping the language and pomp of war is a hallmark of failed thinking. Primitive.

That will be closed-door testimony for Ginni, not public. But it will be on video, and the transcript and tape will eventually be made available to DOJ.

Gonna be uncomfortable to plead the Fifth, but that’s what she should do.

Stepford Ginni was clearly leaking S.Ct. info to Eastman. Lock her up!

What happens with all the others who have refused to testify - Jordan, Bannon, etc.? Any consequences at all?

To quote Lizzo, it’s about damn time.

In this war for a war to war against a war that we’re warring over, we must not lose sight of the warring factions attendant to this war, and never rest until the war to war against the war is victorious.

PS War war warry war with a war on top

I’m ready to declare war on all this war talk!

Bannon goes on trial for contempt of Congress next month. Navarro will go to trial too (probably in a pro se shitshow) but his trial hasn’t been set yet. DOJ declined to obtain indictments on Meadows and Scavino, for reasons that haven’t been disclosed but I assume is likely because they’re both already up to their necks in felony investigations. Nobody else has been referred by Congress for contempt. And if/when Ginni pleads the Fifth (as others including Eastman have already done), that’s her absolute right to do so and isn’t punishable by any criminal statute.

I tell you again, it’s war! (Ta-rum!)
Belabor the metaphor! (Ta-rum!)

Pleading the 5th is not itself punishable, but it certainly should be indicative that an investigation of the underlying conduct is warranted.

If she shows up, that is. So far it’s only an invitation. It’s in her best interest to ignore it and see if the committee will issue a subpoena.

Cheney appears to have been the main and possibly only obstacle to involving Ginni so far, and is only relenting now with this new information about contact with Eastman. Would Cheney support a subpoena? I don’t know, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Yeah, Cheney has probably socialized and drunk champagne with her a few dozen times when they were GOP Warriors Fighting the Godless Libs together. In the genteel world of DC that counts for a ridiculous amount of goodwill. Hope that well is now dry.

Are you ready to fight alongside your colonel, and give your five bucks to the Homestarmy if it comes to that? Do you wanna paint that fence some other cool color, and put a fake beard on that tire?!

Luttig’s comment that, “[T]hough disinclined for the moment, as a political matter of fact only the party that instigated this war over our democracy can bring an end to that war,” is not wrong but neglects the part where democracy could win by voting the insurrectionist party out before it succeeds in it’s authoritarian mission.

I like the way the J6 hearings are going it but doesn’t seem like we have that much time left now that I think of it.

ETA: it is interesting to see a reputed arch-conservative like Luttig struggle with the necessary task of condemning the leadership of a political party he has belonged to and supported most of his adult life; that his language gets tangled in circumlocution and overwrought or inconsistent metaphor is not surprising.

Luttig opens his speech with “A stake was driven through the heart of American democracy on January 6, 2021.” You’re in for a long haul when the opening draws an analogy between treason and vampire slaying.

I’m not sure Luttig is in full control of this metaphor when I consider these lines:

“The President and the country deserve nothing less from those who counsel the President, so consequential are the stakes for the Nation when the President acts upon the advice of his or her Counsel.”
And
“In order to end these wars that are draining the lifeblood from our country, a critical mass of our two parties’ political leaders is needed, to whom the remainder would be willing to listen, at least without immediate partisan recrimination.”

Or maybe I am overthinking.
