True, the people who only hear what they want to hear won’t be at all disturbed at Fox’s usual media manipulation, even as they see it being done.
However (the killer “but”, as usual) the rest of the national media will be saturated in a similar manner to the Watergate hearings. Explosive findings being aired, as surely will emerge, will have quite a resonance that even Fox can’t suppress entirely.
Well, this will be the best we can do, for the moment, until Trump starts running out of appeals on some of his more destructive court cases.
Do it! Doing so would basically force the big four channels and a few of the cable networks to carry it. Plus, it pushes everything to the lede story on every other news outlet. Yes, the Conservative Entertainment Network will spin, ignore, do their best to cast it as a nothingburger, and so what? Those aren’t the people we need to reach.
Fox will never show the hearings live, especially in prime time, there’s just too much chance of a revelation that will involve one of their journalists or poke a huge hole in the junk they have spread. Their news division actually would show it, with relevant commentary…the bosses and opinion folks will stop that from happening. They will broadcast spin and lies in primetime instead, and hope that their viewers aren’t exposed to the truth.
Exactly. Who cares what the 30% and shrinking RW idiots say. The tide is already turning against the insurrection party, this will just push it further.
This cannot be overstated. Can you imagine the impression this would create on the public regarding the Dem brand? Cooley and calmly interviewing witness to answer questions posed in such a manner as to weave a coherent narrative.
This will create indelible bonds with the viewers who would then become immunized to the hysterical rebuttals the wider GQP tries to flood the zone with. I see zero downside to this idea.
I am wary of televised hearing, they can often backfire, like when Oliver North became a hero instead of the villain of Iran Contra. He turned the stupid question “was this the worst day of your life?” Into a chance to brag about his service in the military.
Ollie was granted limited immunity before testifying. That will never happen again from a democratic controlled committee in our lifetimes, and I hope, our children’s.
There are no gop stooges on this committee to ask softball or setup questions or give the witness a timeout.
Actually, better to interrupt the mid-day soaps…but, hey, if they want to jump-start their ratings then, yeah, they should definitely open in prime time.
Wonder if Trump will be able to resist appearing on prime time again?
The committee should subpoena Trump to appear and then have an empty chair set up while they present evidence against him. This episode could be the end of the series. Preceding nights could include (non)appearances by Meadows, Hannity, Pence, some sitting members of Congress, the Trump children, etc.
For any of this to break through in a big way they definitely need to make it political theater. (Liz Cheney also has a chance to emerge from this as a major political and media star, which sets her up nicely since she is likely losing the GOP primary in Wyoming to some MAGA clown.
