Jan. 6 Committee Says Trump Intentionally Misled Donors

The Jan. 6 committee spent most of its second hearing Monday picking apart Trump’s relentless lies about the 2020 election outcome — lies he pursued despite findings from both his campaign staff and government investigators that the election results were legitimate.

Concrete evidence the Trump rubes were fleeced. I’m hoping the Trump masses now understand they were taken for a ride to the barn . . .

This wouldn’t be a Trump operation if there weren’t grifting involved.

The committee, at times, seems to have an audience of one: Attorney General Merrick Garland, who would have final say over any high-level criminal charging decisions related to the Capitol attack. And the panel’s focus on these funds may be an instance of its members shaping their arguments for the attorney general.

The committee is presenting evidence as if they are seeking an indictment, as if DOJ is a grand jury.

The argument goes that DOJ is reluctant to indict because such a decision would be seen as political.

The committee is making the case that NOT indicting will be a political decision.

But the Election Integrity Fund didn’t exist: Gary Coby, the campaign’s former digital director, agreed during a deposition that it was a “marketing tactic.”

I wonder if any of the fleeced Trump sheep want their wool back.

And that PAC, in turn, made millions in donations to Trump-aligned groups: …$204,857 to the Trump Hotel Collection

Seems to have enjoyed getting fleeced.

On some level, donating to Trump is begging to be misled. Tell me the one about the olden days when white people ran the country and the trains ran on time, Crazy Grandpa!

What is the Trump Hotel Collection? Is it like a collection plate? Is it used to skim profits from all the milk pouring in? Did Trump raise hundreds of millions in political donations just to skim off hundreds of thousands directly into his creamer?

True Believers will not be as affected by this. But others with whom they interact may. Even Cult members interact with those not completely in.

Besides, I do not believe that these revelations are targeted at feral Trumpers.

They are targeted at people who believe that obtaining money under false pretenses is wrong.

This nugget along with Jared’s comment about being too busy with pardons are good ones.

I hope there’ll be a lot more of this in the coming days. It’s tough to get someone to admit that he’s been cheated, but people tend to be very angry when they come to terms with it.

IANAL, and I would really like to hear from someone who IS a lawyer. If Trump sticks to his story that he believed there was election fraud, can he be convicted? It’s not “lying” if he actually believes something, no matter how ridiculous or fantastic it is? Is that right? I would hate to see the fat b*rd slime his way out from under a conviction. I think he can still be nailed on bank and/or tax fraud, but I want him guilty on all charges.

Nah, they’ll contribute to the Election Defense Fund defense fund.

Will that leave any funds left over for the Election Defense Fund defense fund defense fund?

I don’t think most trumpers will even care that trump used the money for other stuff. They were donating to Dear Leader. That alone gives them satisfaction. They don’t care about the money. Dear Leader will use it to own the libs.
Besides, trump says you’re all lying and they believe him.
So, there’s that.
