Makes Case For Slapping Bannon

I, a Twitter User who was very upset by the chants of “Lock Her Up!” and Trump’s subversion of rule of law and due process and his use of the instrumentalities of justice as a cudgel against political enemies, am very angry and upset that they are going through all this mumbo jumbo instead of just sending out someone or other to summarily arrest and jail him! I will withhold my vote unless my need for a perp walk is instantly gratified! That’ll teach Democrats!

“He should be held in contempt.”

Bit late to the party, Select Committee? A lot of people have been holding Bannon in contempt for years now.

Those dithering democrats, why the hearing started at 10:00am sharp, and they waited until 10:06 to decide to hold the non-appearing dirtyshirt in contempt.

With that, I will note for the record that it is 10:06 a.m., and Mr. Bannon still has not appeared or communicated to the Select Committee that he will appear today as required by the subpoena.
Accordingly, the record is now closed as of 10:06 a.m.
[Whereupon, at 10:06 a.m., the deposition was concluded.]

They totally nailed it here…executive privilege is related to executive branch matters, and that cannot happen with a private citizen. There should be zero argument about this, the only reason there is is due to fealty to a wannabe dictator from the Republican party. You can bet every vote on this is along party lines (aside from Cheney and Kitzenger)…hopefully the absurdity of this argument, and the arrogance of Bannon’s behavior, pushes this through the court system quickly and he’s forced to testify or jailed.

Everyone complaining about the Jan 6th Commission not moving fast enough is ignoring how lightning fast this is…the process just takes time if you want to do it all legally, and that’s meant to protect the rights of the people. Arguing that Bannon should already be in the jail under the Capitol is arguing for the exact same government that Republicans want. The truth will come out, but only if the process is followed and we work to keep Democrats in control of the government.

The case is not complicated, is it? Bannon is refusing to comply with a Congressional subpoena.

Democrats do not seem to understand how to use the power they have.

They already released the text of the criminal contempt referral, and it will be voted on by the committee this early evening, and by the full House at 6:30PM, which is the earliest opportunity to do so. Do you think you could understand the reality you have?

The committee is set to vote on the Bannon “contempt report” this evening. If approved, it will be sent to the House for a full vote.

Where it will pass on a near party-line vote because the party of Jim Jordan has their reasons.

Errr, they subpoenaed him, found him in contempt six minutes after he didn’t show, have scheduled the committee vote for later today and it will be on its way to DOJ as a criminal referral before the evening is out - what part of the legal process would you throw out to invalidate the rule of law?

Are you a slow pitch, softball pitcher? 'Cuz, if so, you threw a nice one just now.

I can’t tell if you left off the sarcasm sign, or you’re serious. The Democrats on the January 6 investigative committee are acting as fast as the law allows. After Bannon defied the legal subpoena at midnight on the 13th, they voted to ask he be charged on the 15th (lightning speed by congressional standards), but legally had to wait three (business?) days to hold the formal vote to proceed to ask the DOJ to file contempt charges.

I wish they had just voted to have Congress use its power of Inherent Contempt, and have the Sargent at Arms arrest him.

That’s snark, posing as a random Twitterer throwing a tantrum, because it’s extremely predictable that there will be whining like the above among some “influencers.”

Yes, yes, yes. A thousand times, yes. We should set up a way to donate money to the Proud Boys to make our dissatisfaction with the Democrats clearer. For the moment, however, I shall have to simply put rocks in my shoes, THAT should make Merrick Garland know that I want immediate [summary] justice!

All in Democrats. Now or never.

There’s reporting… I can’t find a link right now… that Bannon;s lawyer asked the Committee to delay the vote, and they declined. So, Bannon’s lawyer has already figured out that his client is screwed.

This all moves in slow motion, but if we can get this done before November 2022, (and I have some hope, still, that we can), we’ll be okay.

It’s nearly 7pm. Has the dirtyshirt been criminally referred yet?

Just before 5 pm (Pacific TIme), the House Committee voted unanimously (9-0), to send the criminal contempt report on Bannon to the full House for their vote. Onward! Nice end to the evening. :clap:t3: :clap:t3: :clap:t3:

ETA: of course, then they have to figure the Scavino case, and the other subpoena deadlines approaching, including ones for the right-wing Stop the Steal group and nearly a dozen other organizers behind the rally that preceded the deadly attack on the Capitol. (from NPR)

Inch by inch, one step at a time, one day at a time. Patience, grasshopper.
