The airman accused of leaking classified information about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and other foreign policy topics researched mass shootings, was suspended from high school for remarks about weapons, and was denied a gun permit before joining the military, prosecutors said in a Wednesday court filing.
Per court filings, Teixeira’s clearance to access Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information — which he allegedly later used to post classified documents on Discord — came after an alarming series of events.
Honest question: how the hell did he get a security clearance?
Who ever awarded Teixeira a Top Secret clearance needs to be his cell mate.

It has already been stated separately, but that the security clearance procedure could allow such a demented person, more specifically a wannabe murderer and fascist, is mind boggling.
And how many people out there, including his parents, would claim that they never thought he could do anything like that.

FBI did a background check for my secret clearance. I have been interviewed by the FBI when used as a reference for another person’s clearance. How stuff like this could be missed I don’t understand.

There are likely some common threads that run between them.
Exactly, and I guess the National Guard will take anyone who breathes these days. I’ve had multiple clearances and each time the interviewing process is fairly extensive. The investigators go to your neighbors and ask questions and ask you for the names of friends and employers they can interview. No one said, “this kid is fucked up?”
The military uses these a lot

I think they agreed politically, definitely. But would they also take part in a mass shooting? I don’t know. Seems a bit over the top.
