You know, anything different, that’s what they’re gonna talk about: race, religion, ethnic and national background, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality, anything they can do to keep us fighting with each other so that they can keep going to the bank.
You know how I describe the economic and social classes in this country? The upper class keeps all of the money, pays none of the taxes. The middle class pays all of the taxes, does all of the work. The poor are there just to scare the shit out of the middle class… keep on showing up at those jobs." -George Carlin
However, the way it is described gives me grave concerns. If Republicans need the help of Democrats for a continuing resolution, the deal should be the following. All lawlessness by the Trump administration stops. That includes all the illegal firings of government workers, the illegal impoundments, the illegal intrusion by Elon Musk’s DOGE into agencies as well as their changing or scraping of information from government databases and etc… All breaking of our laws stops now, not just one little slice.
Donald Trump has proven himself to have a very transgressive personality. His administration’s criminal activity is walking all over the responsibilities and prerogatives of both the legislative and judicial branches of our government. Any deal should embrace the full text and spirit of our Constitution. As part of the legislative branch, I expect you to take responsibility in protecting your branch of government.
One of the hard realities requires that you convince other Democrats of this position, if you agree that our Constitution, and discontinuance of criminal activity against it, should be the touchstone of any deal. I can see that some might think half a loaf might be favorable as compared to demanding a full loaf, as the old-saw goes. Two problems follow from this position. First, most deals rarely have our Constitution at stake. Second, anything less than a full demand means the Republicans can escape from actually delivering on their deal, because as things stand Donald Trump does not obey the law. So a deal that does not stop the law-breaking is a deal that is meaningless. As to how to make Donald Trump obey. the law, let the Republicans figure that out to your satisfaction.
The full faith and credit of the United States is the responsibility of the Republican party while they hold power over all three branches of government. If they need Democrats help, I can only think that asking them to obey our laws and respect our Constitution to be a fairly minimal ask.
We really need a government shutdown to put Musk and his DOGE bros on ice until we can undo at least some of the damage. For example, reinstate fired employees.
DOGE: Someone please come up with a more accurate noun than “clusterfuck,” which doesn’t even begin to describe what Musk and his merry band of incels have created.
Excellent! If you don’t mind, I’m going to edit this into my own words and style, and shoot it out to my entire Congressional delegation (all of them Democrats).
Thank you. Sometimes, all we need is for someone to help us find the right words.
Economists estimate that 20% of the population account for over 50% of spending in the US. This is because the other 80% is broke or going broke. Now we see that “efficiency” means less food, or less healthy food. The ending of the SNAP program with the Ag Department forced to cut $230 billion over 10 years makes no sense. How dare these people without money want to eat, and worse, how dare those farmers try to feed them.
