A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Who Is Running DOGE??? The Trump White House won’t say exactly, the Trump Justice Department professes not to know, and so far federal judges have not been able to obtain an answer to the most…
IYKYK
Just a reminder: the number for United States Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121.
Your Sens and Reps would love to hear from you. Often.
It’s taking judges an awfully long time to…(fill in the blank)
Well, you can kiss my Chaos Caucus!!
It’s better to look up and call your member’s direct office line in either DC or back home. The switchboard is jammed and unreliable.
Watch for Trump Regime easing up on criticisms of Iran and provocative rhetoric in the near future.
Russian foreign minister arrives in Tehran for talks
Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has landed in Tehran for talks with Iranian officials.
Lavrov is reportedly to meet his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. The Russian foreign ministry said the talks would cover “Russian-Iranian relations” as well as “a number of current international issues”.
In January, Russian president Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, signed a broad cooperation pact as their countries deepened their partnership in the face of sweeping western sanctions.
Russian and Iranian officials said the “comprehensive strategic partnership treaty” covers all areas, from trade and military cooperation to science, education and culture.
Ukraine and the west have accused Iran of providing Moscow with hundreds of drones for use to attack Ukraine, which Moscow and Tehran have denied.
“Republicans are coming to the Democrats hat in hand: We’re about to shut down the government. Help us prevent our extremists from doing that. Dems have to name their price. That’s presumably is, or should be, no help until the criminal conduct stops. But according to Politico, the Republicans are saying something like, “Be reasonable. Trump will never agree to that.””
If the POTUS will not agree to and abide by congressional spending agreements in a representative democratic constitutional republic, then we cannot trust that the POTUS will spend as directed. He has already shown that he does not intend to do so, has not done so and is allowing a deeply conflicted megalomaniac billionaire free rein over federal agencies in order to dismantle the federal government, end investigations into his companies’ wrongdoing and arrange for his own self-enrichment.
You have two choices: (1) own the shutdown by failing to exercise your majority to enact and own your agenda OR (2) we will agree to provide limited funding increases on a monthly (maybe even weekly) basis, because your POTUS has proven to be as criminal in office as he is out of office, refuses to obey appropriations and myriad other laws and is doing more damage to the federal gov’t and the peoples’ privacy than we have ever seen. He is a toddler in the middle of a tantrum and we will therefore treat him like one: financial halter with a short leash. Choose.
And let us be clear: if he attempts to deploy the United States military on our own soil to enforce ANY laws against our citizens or immigrants, funding ends completely and our revenge when and if we ever retake power will be of galactic proportions. This condition subsequent will be placed in every single funding bill: deployment of the military on US soil shall instantly and irrevocably void all funding until such time as the attempted domestic deployment ends. This part is non-negotiable.
Maybe FElon will purge Kraznov; he’s starting to feel his oats.
Eric Prince? Seriously?! I assumed that Trump’s private army would come from the Proud Boys and similar groups but now I see. Prince and his people will be completely loyal to Trump. This will not end well for any of us.
WRT Josh’s “Red Alert” post:
Republicans are coming to the Democrats hat in hand: We’re about to shut down the government. Help us prevent our extremists from doing that. Dems have to name their price. That’s presumably or should be no help until the criminal conduct stops. But according to Politico the Republicans are saying something like, ‘Be reasonable. Trump will never agree to that.’
Others may differ but I think the only reasonable position is “no help with your problem unless and until the criminal conduct stops.” And any deal needs to be enforceable.
Any deal needs to be enforceable? How does that work? There is nothing stopping Trump and Musk now except the courts. I don’t see the leverage the House has to hold Trump to any deal to stop the crimin’.
Trump would say sure, we’ll stop the impoundments and other shenanigans, and then refuse to follow through as soon as the bill is signed. He wants that one omnibus bill including the tax cuts for the wealthy, and he’ll happily lie and break any promises to get it.
So go ahead, let the jackals in the House shut down the government. Let it add to the disfunction that’s souring the public mood on this administration and Republicans in general. Maybe it will help Dems pick up a few seats in the midterms.
Surreal Headline Of The Day
CNN: US joins Russia to vote against UN resolution condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine
What is surreal is Trump’s US remaining in NATO, even though he will withdraw eventually, because the US needs to be there to fight Ukraine being admitted.
It’s an answerable question, but still nada from the Trump administration.
Trump is too ignorant to plan or do this, and Musk didn’t dream up a strategy of judicial defiance.
The Unpurging
Another example of the Trump clusterfuckery: The FDA has reinstated dozens of specialists involved in food safety, review of medical devices and other areas who were laid off last week.
But can they find them.
“US joins Russia to vote against UN resolution condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine“
We also joined North Korea and Iran with vote. Proud member of the axis of evil since 2025.
It may be time to start paying closer than usual attention:

Any deal that leaves Elon Musk in government is a deal that Democrats should not get behind.
Let’s make it clear: we want this clown and his cult followers to leave, and for all the officials who fired federal workers illegally to be disciplined. That’s the deal.
