Risking So Much, Just to Save the Filibuster Two of the eight centrist Democratic senators who helped end the shutdown this week have now said that keeping the filibuster played a decisive role in their decision. Sen. Angus King (I-ME), who caucuses with the Democrats, told the Portland Press-Herald that it was Trump touting his…
Profilibuster is anti-America. Tim Kaine, your name is on the list now. I know you’re not up for re-election for a little bit, but you’re going to have a hard time.
Good grief. The decision to end the shutdown will only help the Democrats. The GOP has nothing to gain from it. Just relax.
" This week, a Utah judge rejected a Republican-led congressional map in favor of a map put forward by the League of Women Voters and Mormon Women for Ethical Government that allowed for a Democratic district around Salt Lake City."
Well, that puts the League in the crosshairs as one of the lib/prog nonprofits that must be destroyed. (sigh)
And also Angus King, the Mustache of Righteousness. Opposition to continuing the filibuster is now one of the Democratic litmus tests. Yes, I know he’s not a D.
I don’t entirely disagree with you. I do however
disagree with the “relax” part. One of the reasons that the shutdown was helpful to Democrats is it separated the fighters from the complicit in front of the nation. This “victory” can only be a victory if we decry the actions of those eight.
The one thing we must never do is relax in the face of fascism.

I’m with you, my friend.
More like MABA: Make America Broke Again
CBO: Republican megabill to cost $4.1T, due to higher borrowing costs
The measure is also expected to add trillions to the federal deficit.
The Senate is anti-democratic, Alaska has two and so does California. Start there!
I would like to hear one of these filibuster-coddlers explicitly game out how and why keeping it helps. Not the hand-wavy shit we’re getting from King and Kaine. I want specifics. Specific specifics, even.
I think one argument might be (I don’t agree with this) that the immediate consequences of removing the filibuster are to grant Trump unlimited power.
This may be a straw-man argument on my part because the counter is obvious: If they want the power, they will take it. Appeasing them now doesn’t make it less likely later.
Two of the eight centrist Democratic senators who helped end the shutdown this week have now said that keeping the filibuster played a decisive role in their decision.
Dear God, they’re even dumber than I thought.
Reminder: Clinton balanced the budget. Dubya broke it again, on purpose.
Wyoming, population 587,618.
Try to get a Constitutional amendment passed that will alter he rule that gives two senators to each state, regardless of population. And remember, you’ll need to have 3/4 of the state legislatures (or special state conventions) ratify your amendment.
Vermont, 648,000 and change. And … the non-represented District of Columbia: 690,000 or so.
Dr. King: “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
(Like it or not, Americans either sail or sink together.)
