It’s The Anniversary Of Jan. 6 And You Can Feel The Steady Drumbeat Of Investigations

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

As we mark the second anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, it can finally be said with high confidence that a credible, comprehensive criminal investigation of the conspiracy to subvert the 2020 election is fully underway.

First. Can we get the 5 votes over so we can adjourn? It’s Friday.

It’s a perfect Friday for indictments.

In the end will be nada. The authority / law enforcement structure in America is of conservative sentiment and will value protecting Trump over America. Look what happened on Jan 6. Then look at what’s not happened since. The rubes and pawns will pay. None of the big boys will.

I’m betting they won’t go after the sponsors of the attempted coup, just like in 1933

Yes, we keep inching halfway to the goal. And when you do that, you never quite get there.

"As we mark the second anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, it can finally be said with high confidence that a credible, comprehensive criminal investigation of the conspiracy to subvert the 2020 election is fully underway.

Combined with the work of the House Jan. 6 committee, a degree of accountability for the coup attempt is at hand."

In one way or another we have been saying that about everything. Russian collusion, Mueller finding 10 cases of Obstruction of Justice, Two Impeachments, and Two long years waiting for ANYTHING to officially drop on people who attempted a coup on live TV, with most of the planning and villains doing their work in public. Meanwhile, all the villains ran for office again and kept their high seats in the same govt. they tried to overthrow.

If anyone were to sketch out the major details of all this to us 10 or 20 years ago…and then drop the knowledge that 2-7 years later all the major players were walking free, still in office, and frantically working the levers of media and govt. to continue their crimes and protect themselves…you would have shot yourself in the head to avoid experiencing your country’s demise.

This guy needs a writing gig. Hilarious.

“Matt Schlapp of the CPAC grabbed my junk and pummeled it at length"

I’m guessing ‘at length’ means ‘for a long time’ and one wonders why he allowed it to continue…but anyways…

ETA: I should hasten to add, that after reading the full story and the victim’s complete statements…it isn’t great joking material especially since the R campaign staffer felt Schlapp would ruin his career if he refused/spoke out. But hey, if you run with Republicans, you can hardly be shocked.

On Thursday, Mr Gaetz vowed to resign from his role in Congress should a moderate Republican be elected as new House leader.

“If Democrats join up to elect a moderate Republican, I will resign from the House of Representatives. That is how certain I am. I can assure your viewers that won’t happen,” he told Fox News on Thursday night.

Don’t threaten us with a good time! I mean obviously the Democrats should never ever do this, but oh boy is this tempting.

That noncompete ban proposal is huge. That would be amazing if it becomes official. Tech lobby gonna be out in force though.

The only thing that is surprising about the current spectacle in the House is how unsurprising it is! There was virtually no chance that the GOP-run House would functional normally, and zero chance that it will function normally after a speaker is finally chosen. I do expect the investigations to come on line though: all of them competing with each other for airtime on Fox News. GOP pols aren’t going to waste too much energy on drafting bills that have no chance of becoming law, and the only bills that do pass will be the craziest and most extreme.

Well, there was the famous Ford pardon of Nixon. Nixon ended up a venerable ex-President to some for many years later.

And I believe it took several years before the crew that masterminded the break-in and all the rest were actually doing time.

Someone has that timeline (I don’t).

Oh please, let it be so! It would be so fitting that a mouth-breathing troll would choose to perish because the Speaker is not a mouth-breathing troll.
