NEW YORK (AP) — As an emergency medicine physician in New York City, Dr. Kamini Doobay has always known that death is part of the territory when trying to care for the city’s sickest.
I do hope she gets a chance to shake the hands of an Administration member or a trump family member to thank of them for this marvelous opportunity so early in her career: free press for her future practice!* /s
I’m still seeing people downplaying this situation, and not just on the right. Maybe it’s a fear of mortality thing? People want to stay in denial so they can keep from thinking about their own death? Meanwhile, these valiant folks on the front lines are bearing all the brunt and we’re not even interested in giving them the equipment they need.
“Who does that ventilator belong to? These are questions that, you know, I think about when I go home at night and fortunately, haven’t had to make those decisions yet,” she said. “But we’re getting there.”
Not only is it OK to KAG (Kill American Geriatrics) for Wallstreet$$$
BUT
The Covidiot-In-Chief will get our medical responders killed!
Meanwhile, the Trump Covidiot Regime is suspending EPA environmental rules with no definite end date because of the “new hoax”
Great, just great- NOT - MORE TOXICITY in the American lives!
Just wait doctor, it can and probably will get worse. Just wait until patients are left to die alone because you have personally decided another patient has a better chance so you have unplugged the ventilator to take it to another room. That will be an absolutely new version of hell for you to endure. Just wait until that patient left to die is a person you work with.
Here’s the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker for those interested:
In a few weeks, the whole United States will be like New York City. Red States will get hit especially hard, I think, due to their rather cavalier attitude toward the virus right now. I also think the SF Bay area might escape the worst of it since they were the first to shelter in place. We’ll see.
I was just doing some housecleaning on my PC’s hard drive and just happened to come across a 2009 version of a citizen’s pandemic guide that I downloaded years ago, and looking through it I was struck by how accurate it was in describing how this unfolds. So I’m posting a link here to an updated 2020 version of this same guide. It’s a bit long but has lots of useful information:
Your post is brutal and hard to give a like to because it is painfully true. As a retired nurse, I can still remember the patients that died that shouldn’t have. This poor resident is already traumatized, but it is going to get much worse.
This is no fucking way to run a country. The shamelessness at the top is so vile, so amoral, so lacking in anything resembling humanity - my heart goes out to every healthcare worker who has been tossed into this bottomless pit. The total despair has just begun.
I know everybody´s all burned out so I hesitate to throw another worry stick on the fire … but I today I am reminded of how a week or so ago I was feeling like I was in the calm before the storm with just a faint glimmer of hope it would not hit the USA like it was hitting Europe. I didn´t want to believe the science but I did.
Now I have the same feeling about India and Syria. And we think the USA was not prepared. The humans may be dieing like rats in places like that… sorry, reading the first chapters of “The Plague” …which is full of dead rats.
Also wondering how the loss of income and the need for charity donations will change the calculus of US political donations. It will be a strange ethical calculation to donate to Dems instead of Doctors Without Borders. People think the models predicting the behavior of the virus are confusing …wait till we try to wrap our minds around the maze of such ecological effects.
