Oh, I have no doubt it’s part of their culture war on universities. Earlier, I linked an abominable screed that was published on Faux News today from the editor of The Federalist basically arguing that universities are the font of this country’s destruction.
They basically recognize that they’ve lost the culture war and that the only way to gain back any ground is to abandon democracy and engage in brainwashing. Voting rights and education are now fully anathema to them.

It wasn’t really all a joke…worked with a guy who had a PhD but went on about universities being liberal incubators. Finally someone asked him how he managed to get a doctorate without becoming a liberal and he replied with a straight face that it was an extremely hard fight to protect himself and his conservatism and he had to be vigilant all the time.
(We just rolled our eyes…)

My state saw over 1800 new cases overnight, that is almost a 40% increase statewide in 24 hours. YEA, blame that on more testing.

I don’t know what got into our Governor but Abbott has just ordered a mask requirement in public for the entire state of Texas starting tomorrow, excepting only counties with fewer than 20 cases and I don’t think there are many.

Thankfully we still have a free press, and they’re reporting on the exponential surge in cases, which dwarfs the earlier surge. No great wonder, because in AZ, TX, and FL, nobody’s wearing masks or social distancing.
Then these assholes will travel around the country, starting new COVID fires.
Apparently Abbott figured he wasn’t going to be the new Vice President next year.
Now-- everybody suffers because he’s been a weathervane-coward in the presence of first, Death Panel Lt Dan. Then, in the audience of The Dolt King.
The entire rationale of mandating to the extreme at the outset-- and maintaining it-- was to get the largest percentage of buy-in from the state’s citizenry. Now Abbott has allowed the stupidest and most stubborn amongst us to dictate the efficacy of doing so-- and far too late.
He coulda’ been a hero by now.
