Is Iowa’s 2021 Voter Suppression Bill The Worst Yet?

The 2020 election cycle saw historic voter turnout, netting President Joe Biden the most votes ever won by a U.S. presidential candidate.

Iowa style voter suppression and Texas style deregulation are what Republicans want for the entire country.

US Constitution, Article 1, Section 4:

“The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”

It’s time.

My hope is people will learn the lessons of Texas.
When you allow Republicans to be in charge you are screwed.

Since Trump is an (undeclared) enemy of the United States, and since Treason is sometimes described as “giving aid and comfort to the Enemy,” can the DOJ bring charges of Treason against these various legislatures?
Asking for a formerly-democratic country.

I do not want to speak to a Republican ever again in my life if I can help it. Despicable is too kind an adjective.

True, but their sentiment is “as long as that ‘other’ is screwed more than I am, it’s OK by me.”

The hope is we get a federal voting rights law that overturns all of this for federal elections, so at least those are fair. But, really, the solution is for every state to turn against the efforts of Republicans to stop people from voting. It’s going to take a 50 state plan to do that, and the planning has to start now to get enough people out to vote Republicans out of office in 2022.

Let’s just call it what it is: Republicans are done with democracy.

They don’t want it anymore. It’s just that simple. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I was taught in high school in the 80s that this was over. That might have been optimistic, but still. Thank you John Roberts for your work in undoing the civil rights movement of the 60s. There should be a postage stamp in it for you if the GOP manages to disenfranchise all nonwhites (and whites under 60)

Lemme guess: Only those registered with the Republican Party can vote?

Please remember that Iowa Voters constantly decry & fear the evils of socialism yet accept billion$ annually in Fed Govt Ag Subsidies/Loans/Payments/Price Supports.

Ergo, increased Voter Suppression while singing the National Anthem and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is easy for them, too. (Not just Iowa, of course, but we pick on them today.)

Another requires that auditors follow all election guidance from the secretary of state, currently Republican Paul Pate, or be charged with first-degree election misconduct, a felony. The secretary of state’s office could send employees to county offices to look for any “technical infractions” 60 days before and after the election, violations which could be charged by up to a $10,000 fine.

“Yes she is. Look at her nose.”
“It’s a carrot.”
“Well, we did do the nose.”

On the bright side, despite frozen commodes and lack of running water, Ted Cruz’s presidential ambitions proved that at least one thing could be flushed in Texas this week.

There is a reason the Bills are HR-1, and SR-1.

It’s past time… this should be the legislation that kills the fillibuster.

Democrats have learned that lesson over and over and over and over and over and over again, ad infinitum. It’s Republicans who are a bit slow. By choice.
