This was the most cold and calculating and the most heinous. I remember the uproar.
• Another Korean Air flight was brought down by the USSR on 1 September 1983. The Boeing 747 civilian airliner from New York to Seoul was shot down by a Soviet jet just west of the Russian island of Sakhalin killing all 269 passengers and crew, including US congressman Larry McDonald. The Russians believed it was a US military surveillance plane and fired tracer rockets as a warning but it did not respond, the Soviet fighter pilot later said. US president, Ronald Reagan called the shoot down “a massacre”.

The video footage of the missiles hitting the plane was shown around the world. Iran had no choice but to admit it. Ukraine wants full access to what remains of the plane (the plane pieces were moved already). Why had Iran kept the airport open.

I seriously wonder if perhaps a Russian was at the controls of that missile station. Nothing to support that theory, of course.
And, the guy at the controls, didn’t hear back for 10 seconds, got to fire now. Ten seconds.

I can think of one possible reason. Incoming American jets would have had to run an obstacle course around all that air traffic to get at Tehran. Like moving barrage balloons, but with people in them.

Reagan admitted in 1988 the US shot down Iran Air flight 655, Iran has now admitted that they shot down Ukraine flight 752, so Vlad…not man enough to admit you shot down Malaysia flight 17?
And for the love of sanity why are commercial airlines flying into and over conflict situations?
