Reynolds hasn’t drawn any credible Democratic opponents, and I confess that I don’t understand why not.
Found this while perusing my FB account:
Sometimes you can hear something and it doesn’t quite sink in…but reading the words makes it all too real.
Grassley is getting on in years. Never say die.
She is pretty well liked by the Rethuglicans in Iowa. I don’t know if she got Trump’s endorsement but she has endorsed the extreme right ideas on taxes, education, vaccines and other topics.
ETA
This, literally, came up on my news feed.
I’m so excited! Like my friend, the Black, Gay, Muslim Hippie running for Governor here in Florida. Change is coming!
It does seem like a buffer would have been a good idea. It does not auger well for this candidate.
LOL…and lemme pile this on a bit @tena hehehehe
I’m a firm believer that there are members of minority groups out there…all of whom have legitimately suffered under the cruelty of white supremacist Christian dominionism in this country…who simply view the road to equality as one paved with the continued suffering of the rest of the OTHER minority groups. Why? Cuz we’re all human. There’s gonna be complete fucking douchebags in every “tribe”. Plus, this history of immigration in this country provides such a colorful illustration of the “pull the ladder up” chain-bigotry type of thing…X group being on the receiving end as their people were the big immigrant influx, but then they turn it around on Y group who is next. Competition, zero-sum thinking, the balance between need and avarice in the race for resources…all of it factors in. “I want mine first” and “oh no they don’t…if they get theirs, that means I might not get mine” are natural human reactions. It’s just that only the good ones manage those feelings correctly.
As to the Log Cabin types…the fact that they love to stress “I’m an American and patriot first” when speaking to or with their GQP Trump KKKult counterparts tells me they are using the same limited meanings for those words. And we all know what caveats the words “American” and “patriot” carry with them when they come out of those peoples’ mouths.
Exactly, the idea of a rising tide lifting all boats is completely foreign to them.
He was beating her by 18 (RCP-Demoines Register).
Anything is possible (she’s a strong primary candidate), but smart money is on Grassley.
Sure.
The Republican Rick Roll?
Hold on there. I have been to Iowa for RAGBRAI. Register’s Great Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa. It;s a complete hoot. A traveling party on bikes for 20,000. Mrs darr loves her cycling and has done this ride twice. I drove a motor home for her team. It’s not a race but rather a ride from town to town along a set route. It was a ton of fun for 530 miles in a week. I found Iowans to be kind, civil, and generous. I remember the lady who had a bakery in a small town. She made thousands of muffins for any and all and gave them away free.
Thanks @darrtown. A few weeks ago there was another blast on Iowa. I’m the first to say there are a number of problems in the state but hellhole, no.
And when it really comes down to it, there are lovely areas and great people in every state. The politics of a lot of states are fucked up but as part of the Union they do add to it’s greatness.
Well at least she doesn’t seem to fawn all over the Orange Menace. I believe that AL Gov Kay Ivey is the same way, their both horrible but don’t seem to be playing up to Trump.
Only every damn day. I miss Tom Harkin, my old rep Dave Loebsack, hell I even miss Jim Leach. Now, I do a little work west of West Des Moines and see multiple “Hillary for Prison” t-shirts, that was easily 2 years after 2016. I drive along beautiful farm roads near the Mississippi, and see a 10 foot tall F#ck Joe Biden" billboard. Classy stuff, hope that’s not on a school bus route.
It’s discouraging. 12 years ago I stood in a sweaty senior center with my friends, making sure Barack Obama got a big win in our precinct. Now this ain’t no purple state no more. And I only go triple negative because feel so badly about it.
People bring bikes to that? I thought it was just a week long excuse to drink beer.
Sounds like you are in the same general area as I am. Leach wasn’t perfect but he seemed to be a decent person. My parents went to high school with him and said he was ok back then.
I don’t get what the hell happened to Iowa? It was Purple/Blue when Obama was in office. But now it’s deep red. Was there a mass migration of Millenials and Gen Z to Minnesota?
Still, I can’t believe that Iowans are going to be dumb enough to re-elect Grassley again when he’d be 94 when his term would be over.
Maybe we can send them all to TX then and keep the land. Also, you’re white, right? You should hear what that muffin lady said about the black kids…oh wait…there’s no black kids in her town…
I like Abby Finkenauer. I don’t give her much of a chance against Grassley, but the statewide run can build her name ID up for future runs.
