Iowa Judge Temporarily Blocks State Legislature’s Brand New Six-Week Abortion Ban

An Iowa judge has temporarily blocked Iowa’s new six-week abortion ban, leaving the temporary injunction in place “until the court’s final adjudication on the merits in this matter.”

Trying to remain positive and hope the Iowa Supreme Court will agree with this judge’s view of undue burden.

“… that some level of constitutional protection applies to women ”

That statement right there says it all. Amazing this even has to be said today or 50 years ago or 100 years ago or 250 years ago …

How many lawyers does it take to let a woman decide about her own body?
This is all a disgrace.

I’d rather see a photo of the judge, Seidlin, up front and leading this story than a pic of the vile governor. He’s a good guy, she’s the villain.

The Repubs claim, actually a lie, that they wanted the states to decide matters of abortion and its legality, seems to create 50 Supreme Courts. That is a recipe for chaos and division and only continues the years long struggle for women’s rights. WTF? “Stari Decisis, We Hardly Knew Ye” (especially since many, if not all of the then SC candidates pledged their fidelity to that doctrine). What am I missing?

With the MAGATS here in Iowa it may be safer if his photo isn’t published.

I keep forgetting about people like MAGATS because I live in the Golden State and in general bad guys don’t bother us.

Given he isn’t a politician and he doesn’t have a habit of being a public figure, there may not be (m)any photos of him available on the Internet, without trawling his Facebook page. Whereas, Gov. Reynolds hands out press photos all the time. So it’s probably a scarcity issue than a conscious choice.

I see enough of them, even in this liberal enclave. Best “not what you expected moment” was a jacked up Ford F-150 flying a HUGE Pride flag.

Everyone should watch this new ad playing in Ohio showing the GOP’s attempts to take away birth control. pic.twitter.com/ad2FQQlw3q

At first I thought he looked a bit like Orrin Hatch.

I saw this on MSNBC today. What a hoot!

So this is a flippant ruling?

Regardless of the absurdities that are “deeply rooted in the Nation’s history and traditions” this should have been put to rest when the 14th Amendment was ratified unless there’s some compelling argument that women are not included in the citizens of the United States whose privileges or immunities shall not be abridged.

I don’t have a lot of faith that the abortion ban law will be struct down by the Iowa Supreme Court.

Reynolds got a supermajority of her appointees on the court.

Note the decision doesn’t say ALL protections apply to women…

The way they say it makes it sound like we should be throwing them a parade and thanking them on our knees for some breadcrumbs, I mean SOME constitutional protections.

“Please, sir, can I have some more?”

NICE and confusing. Thank you, Judge Seidlin.
