House Intelligence Committee member Jackie Speier (D-CA) said on Sunday that transcripts of the hearings in the impeachment investigation will likely be publicly released this week.
Transcripts are coming out within 5 days, Roger Stone’s trial starts Tuesday, plus we have previously withheld reports coming in from Mueller thanks to Buzzfeed. Wow. Somewhere in there, I’ll have to squeeze in some work. After all, I’m proudly not on Putin’s payroll.
Better start releasing those transcripts ASAP AND look into those Mueller Memos/302s as there seems to be a lot that we the public did not know were in the Mueller Report!
This is perfect. Trump and Co thought they would have this week to pound their latest “message” while congress is on recess. Now they will be bombarded by these transcripts. Good timing, Dems.
Someone on the WH staff must be certified to dispense the level of powerful sedatives needed to put Current Occupant to sleep on night like this… you just know that Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are haunting his goddamned dreams.
Monday there’s a pretrial hearing to determine whether the defense can play a Godfather clip to the jury to explain what Stone meant by telling Corsi to do a Pentangeli.
I generally agree that the timeline looks god now. The latest stonewalling just means to me that lots of damaging information will continue to come out month by month AFTER House impeachment and Senate acquittal. (The courts will be enforcing all the ignored subpoenas during this time.) The Dems will let the Repugs go ahead with their hasty sham trial, but will NOT announce that they are done with investigations exposing Trump’s misdeeds. They will let them go dormant between subpoena rulings from the courts, and let them reawaken to produce headlines every time people like Eisenberg are ordered to appear. So new details will continue to make headlines right up until the election a year from now. The talking point of 2020 will be the farce that the Senate trial was because it was rushed through even though so much information had been hidden before the trial happened. The top-secret server is a BIG deal. If all of the officials who know the details about that refuse to testify, that does not make it go away. It will be the opposite… That half of the story will continue to be of great interest to the public, even though the Repugs will insist on doing their silly trial before anyone has testified about that half of the story. The Repugs will not be able to credibly claim that the House is keeping the “witch hunt” alive, because it will be the courts keeping the questions alive by making subpoena ruling headlines, not the House committees.
Now that we can assume in my opinion that everyone that will appear publicly is someone that has already appeared behind closed doors, we know the public part of impeachment, which will apparently begin next week, will probably not last that long.
So we can now move on with our debate and speculation about strategy, to the time after public testimony, especially in terms of all the stonewalling since impeachment began…
The bottom line about the stonewalling to me is that it probably will have reduced the number of vote-able impeachment articles from the House by the end of public testimony.
How should the House respond to that fact?
Should they claim that the Senate trial cannot begin, because the stonewalling has prevented them from finishing impeachment? Or should they let the Senate make fools of themselves by going ahead with a hasty trial, even though bombshells of new damaging facts will continue to be uncovered after the sham trial, by court orders to testify, right until the election a year from now?
In other words, the stonewalling has already guaranteed the Ukraine Scandal will continue to be exposed until next year’s election. The only question is, will it be better for the Dems to keep all the new bombshells under the official name impeachment, or will it be better to announce that impeachment is over even though it was stymied, and let the new facts be aftershocks.
The Republicans are doing a good job framing impeachment as being politics as usual. They are using that framing to rally the Trump base and to freak out folks like Josh.
Democrats need to do all they can to pull this back to the absolutely horrible abuse of office that it really is. If that means they have to take out ads on Fox they need to take out ads on Fox.
Democrats should not fund raise off of impeachment.
