Intel Cmte Member: Yovanovitch ‘Overcome With Emotion’

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said that former ambassador to the Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch “became overcome with emotion” and had to step out of her deposition several times on Friday.

Of course she was! Can you imagine devoting your whole life to patriotically serving your country, and doing an excellent job of it in the foreign service. You are an ambassador to a country working to reduce corruption, which, as she so elegantly wrote, was beneficial to both Ukraine and the United States. And some demented mafiosi arrive from the United States and not only undermine everything you’ve done, but manage to get you fired at the behest of the very corrupt forces in the Ukraine you are working against? Talk about getting stabbed in the back.

She was removed from her post by Trump after prodding by Rudy Giuliani, who turned on her for blocking his attempts to manufacture dirt on the Bidens.

They learned less than nothing from having to go through the SCO investigation.

I’da pissed my pants if I’d been her.

Yovanovitch may be the precursor to others getting the nerve to do what’s right – it took guts and patriotism to put herself in this position. I hope the dam bursts now that she’s begun the process, because that’s the only way to drain the swamp Trump has created.

Overcome with emotion…

And yet she stayed because she believed the story had to be told.

What they took away as the lesson of the SCO investigation was this: if you have an AG who works for you only , you can get away with anything. Now they’re trying to drive a truck through it.

My view is Trump learned how much he could get away with. He’s still at it.

ETA-- @daveminnj said it better!

Yovanovitch declined to answer questions after the nearly 10-hour session.

Seems reasonable, considering that she had just answered questions for the previous ten hours!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and bet that it’s the so-filled-with-rage-that-you’re-shaking emotion.

But I’m sure the republicans will try to twist it into something bad about her, because she’s female and that’s what they do.

“Nevertheless, she persisted!”

A Trump specialty. He stiffs contractors, fires people on a whim, repeatedly lies about everything, and cares only about himself.

He’s panicked and in a corner. Unless Mitch cuts the cord, we’ll see more of this in the next year.

Shame on Patrick Maloney, a male democrat, describing ambassador Yovanovitch in a default misogynistic woman shaming manner… “she was overcome with emotion”.

Had a man ambassador been in that seat and been overcome with emotion, my expectation is that the description would have been “he was so upset at the situation that he could barely hold his anger and had to take a break”.

To be clear, she declined to answer questions from the media.

Maddow, I think, captured the moral and strategic significance of Yovanovitch’s testimony. She’s going to be a very sympathetic character. She’s bold and brave (certainly more than any of the men who leak but won’t come forward openly like…just about everyone).

She gave 9 hours of testimony. She seems to know a lot about the operation to oust her. But another thing she might know a lot about is Dmitry Firtash, and the whole specter of corruption in Ukraine that is propped up by an alliance between Putin and the Russian mob.

The part of the story which bobbed to the surface with the arrest of those 2 goons from Sopranos Season 3 is that the Russian mafia (in partnership with the Kremlin) is funneling money into the GOP and those funds were used to orchestrate this shakedown of Zelensky in partnership with Trump/Rudy.

That story needs to come out more clearly.

If only they were teachable, cowardly, lying, vicious Trump and his band of cowardly, lying, vicious, abject lackeys, could learn from Marie Yavanovitch about courage, patriotism, and service. The ambassador is a hero and an example to us all. I admire her more than I can say.

Looks like Moscow is going to pay a price for having done that to Garland after all.
