International students could be forced out of the country if they take too many online only courses this fall — even though many universities are planning on using remote education to slow the spread of COVID-19.
wanton cruelty. As a teacher of international grad students, I can’t tell you how dangerous and disruptive this will be for many of our students. We’re planning a hybrid model, but with cases spiking, who knows what will happen in two months.
Just to be mean to foreigners, I’m guessing. And bonus, it screws over the schools, as well.
This is so ridiculous and awful. I’m flabbergasted at the fact that the jerks even thought it up. I mean, the energy that they put into coming up with creative ways to screw over immigrants and foreign visitors is astonishing.
because they are idiots incapable of understanding that not all internet access is the same, or that time zone differences mean that some students will have to take classes in the middle of the night, etc, etc etc…
plus for many institutions, it is past the deadline for things like transferring or taking a leave of absence for the fall. There will now be yet another mad scramble as students, faculty, and administrators try to figure out what the hell everyone is supposed to do now. And probably lawsuits if students want to leave and get their money back. Tragic since most schools have been working their way back to some amount of stability, in whatever form they have come up with, for the fall semester. This is just rotten to the core and there is literally no good reason for it except to hurt people.
COVID is isolating the American population. We can no longer freely travel the world, no longer freely travel from one region to another. This administration will take further advantage of that fact.
Every college should immediately announce plans for an in person paper tiger class available to all international students. If the WH is going to institute a draconian rule like this, make em go out and try to enforce it.
I thought the same thing last night when I remembered a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake for the Shaw Festival. We didn’t bother to get tickets because of the pandemic, but we wouldn’t have been able to go anyway. We are isolated, trapped, and Trump is to blame.
