Insurrection In The Capitol: So Many Questions Remain After DC Siege | Talking Points Memo

As the dust, and tear gas, settles after a mob of violent insurrectionists laid siege to the United States Capitol, many questions remain outstanding. Why were the Capitol Police so outmanned? Who exactly was behind the order to finally send in the National Guard to help quell the uprising? Who were the individuals who led the charge — other than Trump himself — and how will they be held to account?

We’re still not done with this folks. They’ll be even more craziness to come. You can bet on it.

Edit: He just threw his own supporters under the bus. He’s done! There’s no coming back from this.

Foxy Friend hopes Trump can forgive Pence? Give me a break. That is the very definition of what is wrong with Fox News. It is why Fox News should be run out of business.

Pence did exactly what he was required to do by the Constitution. There is nothing for Trump to forgive. In fact if I was Pence after yesterday’s attempted coup Trump’s forgiveness would be the last thing I would be concerned about.

Let’s hope reinstating something like the Fairness Doctrine is high on the Biden agenda. It’s as important as anything else he’s facing - perhaps more important. I know the genie is out of the bottle, but we have to try.

Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt said on Thursday that she hopes President Trump “will be able to forgive” Vice President Mike Pence

You cannot expect someone who screws Sean Hannity for fun, to understand how outrageous her statement is. Trump forgiving Pence for not committing a crime on his behalf.

I suspect many of the crazies are still in DC. The police have pictures, and probably have a lot of names by now. They should be all about rounding them up in their hotels. I think no knock warrants should be appropriate.

God damn it, both houses of Congress have adjourned. The Senate won’t meet until the 19th, the House until after the inauguration.

There are no “questions” about what happened. The suggestion is intended to cast doubt on reality and pave the way to fantasy. Trump did his Rambo routine and played tough guy. His groupies did what he told them to do and stormed the Capitol because they’re dumb enough to think something positive would come from it. A woman died.

This was never supposed to actually happen like it did. Trump’s yak and the nut-balls that follow him were just slinging bravado. Tough talk. Wingnut masturbation. Then it hit the fan. So here comes the bullshit. It was Antifa. It was “instigators” etc.

There is no right and left in American politics anymore. There’s stand up and chickenshit. There’s reality and bullshit. There’s manning up and tantrum throwing.

There are no question. Trumpers did it ( on his order ) but they don’t have the balls to take the heat for it so they do the lowest thing a man can do. Blame it on someone else. Chickenshit. Bullshit. and cry babying.

Someone asked me yesterday what my top five things would be if I were Biden. The Fairness Doctrine made the list.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump said.

Yes, it is abundantly clear that the facts do, indeed, bear out that you totally disagree with the outcome of the election. Asshole.

To anyone who listens to podcasts, I cannot recommend Slate’s What Next podcast for today enough. Interviews with 2 journalists - one who marched with the crowd after Trump’s speech and one who was in the capitol building when it was locked down. Of special note is the attitude of the police that the protesters encountered when they arrived at the Capitol. It supports all of my worst suppositions about how cops treat people like this.

“After all the things I’ve done for [Trump],'” Pence complained, according to Inhofe.

Yeah, well, after all of the things that Pence has done for Chiselin’ Trump, he deserves a lot worse than what happened to him yesterday.

But they did it on camera and they were proud of it. Should be easy enough to identify them. There’s a new sheriff in town and there will be prosecutions. They had the entire US Congress in fear for their lives. There’ll be a price to pay for that.
Social media will track these people down and notify their employers. If they don’t go to jail, they may well lose their jobs.

Let’s also keep in mind that this happened about 12 hours after a Jewish man and a black man were elected to the Senate.
Rioting and looting are often signs of people feeling impotent. It says a lot that losing fair elections is enough to trigger this response in Trump and his followers.

I am not even convinced he wrote it. I think the purpose of the tweet to be designed to quell talk of impeachment of the 25th amendment.

“I’ve known Mike Pence forever. I’ve never seen Pence as angry as he was today,” the GOP senator said”

I less surprised that Pence is angry at Trump than I am that Pence has the emotional depth to feel anger.

He’s doing it phonetically.
