I swear all of this goes back to Trump doesn’t want to pay a foreign agency any money. Trump does’t see why the US spend money in developing countries because the ROI isn’t there from his standpoint.
And this may mean that Trump is betting on US drug companies and US researchers to develop the winning vaccine to fight off COVID-19. If we’re still in the WHO then we’d couldn’t make a profit off of selling the vaccine.
Trump is one sick SOB.
Trump has destroyed U.S. relations with all of our allies. No one trusts us anymore. This is yet another example of his erratic foolish non fact based decision making process.
He’s setting up a patronage system. It pisses him off that all this money “he” gives to the world is routed through international organizations that prevent him from asking for favors in return.
I think you are right. His very limited comprehension of anything, much less long term relationships and benefits other than money, is driving most if not all of his decisions. He gets so excited by arms deals with people like the Saudis because he treats the numbers as if they are profits for his company. He treats everything else like a renter trying to stiff him on this month’s payment. He is totally and completely lost about any issue outside of his sketchy company, and after 6 bankruptcies it can easily be argued he actually has no idea about how to actually run that either.
Florida added 4,049 new coronavirus cases in one day, breaking the previous record for most single-day cases set yesterday. The state is now approaching 94,000 infections since the first recorded case in March. 28 percent of the cases have come in the past 10 days. @TB_Times
I don’t want to brag, but FL (4179 per million) still lags way behind AZ (6842 per million) in cases per million - AZ is rapidly ascending into the upper echelons of disaster states and should reach the top 10 fairly soon.
Officials who deal with the WHO knew that withdrawal is a cumbersome process requiring a year’s notice, a multiagency review and payment of unpaid dues.
I’ll hazard a guess that President Biden will reverse this decision with plenty of time before the one-year deadline has elapsed.
He did hedge that bet by giving a UK based company (AstraZeneca) 1.2 billion for 400 million doses of that vaccine being developed by Oxford. Four European countries also pre-paid for 400 million doses of the same vaccine last week.
What gives him the power to withdraw from the organization. Aren’t we in the organization because of some treaty that was ratified by Congress? Shouldn’t he go back to Congress to abrogate the treaty? I am amazed that he can abrogate ratified treaties and not have to have Congress behind him.
Covid-19 is a rolling contagion with multiple spikes occurring again and again allowing those who profiteer off of catastrophes to continue their grift. Katrina, anyone? Shock Doctrine?
